I've seen this image floating around for a long time, and I have to say, when I first saw Matthias, it took me a bit to come around to liking his design, but now I think he looks great! The side-by-side of him with Toothless makes him look even better somehow. Keep up the good work!Β

actually he looks quite different now
i struggled a lot with how to make matthias (and other night furies) not look like genetic clones of toothless with only colours to differentiate them
this drawing here is what he currently looks like. i got rid of the sail on his neck some time ago- there was just no need for it

I can tell there's still some resemblanceΒ to his old design. The thicker neck, broader face, longer ears. Looks pretty good!

I actually personally think night furies have some variation in their gene pool
Like some have longer spines and some have fins on their back that make up for the lack of back spines that split
Both help the dragon manoeuvre itself when flying! He does possess some recessive traits, but he's not a super special unheard of example of his species UvU*
