it's quite true, when you are on the edge, only a few inches to fall can feel like several yards, (you may insert centimeters and meters, if it you must)!

I would choose the inch for the distance to the edge, and the yard for the height - all things being equal

Good shot, and I wonder where you've taken it. Most people don't wander on rooftops all the time, so this looks like a very rare occasion to me.
Great you turned this one into a duotone. I imagine it enhances the mood of the original shot beautifully - und underlines the drop that could make this sleepy head very much awake suddenly. If for a short moment only, I'm afraid.

It is taken on a wall on the bank of the Rhone. There is probably a 10m vertical gap on his right side, and underneath a cobblestones path - which is not really soft.
I am a color street photo addict. B&W - or duotone - are not a must for me. But in that case, colors were not adding much.

I'm all for focusing on the mood of a shot and trying to enhance it if possible. This attitude determines wether I finish something in color or b/w, duotones, tritones or whatever.
As you say, colors wouldn't have done a lot here. Quite the opposite, I think, because the duotone enhances the feel of "coming doom" for this relaxation seeking individual. Or is he suicidal?
