This is an updated version of the mermaid I made for a few months ago. She, as well as so many of my friends, loved this picture. I made it because she bought me a subscription some time ago. For my birthday, she bought me another. So I updated her mermaid form. This picture actually serves three functions. First of all, this is my thank you present for Jen for buying me another sub for my birthday. Secondly, this is an entry for her fourth Think Pink contest. Third, I support a cure for the frightening disease known as breast cancer (or any form of cancer for that matter).

Jen was diagnosed with breast cancer two times throughout her life. She has overcome this disease both times, and should be considered a hero for those less fortunate. This mermaid is modeled after her, matching her hair and eye color. Pink also happens to be her favorite color! She wears a pink ribbon around her tail like a martial arts belt. She also bears the familiar pink ribbon as a tattoo on her right arm, along with a smaller one at the end of her necklace. She is offering someone a pearl which contains her hopes and prayers.

Do you recognize the frame she’s in? It’s the same style frame I used for my second Birthstone Mermaid series, featuring the name of the contest, as well as an encouraging line. The pink ribbons decorate the corners of the frame. I figured they’d be better than her scales.

On another note, no one in my family or any of my friends has ever suffered breast cancer (it’s mostly heart attacks and lung cancer). I can only hope that when this cancer pops up on someone close to me, they have the strength to fight it and defeat it like Jen has. I admire Jen’s strength, endurance, and confidence. She truly is a warrior, for she has all the qualities of one!
