I love how you use the text bulbs (whatever you call them XD) to show the emotion/mood/vibe. It gives a very nice effect I can see both sides. Nero could not leave a friend to die but his father also has a point. Animal populations need to survive and not individually. It's the bigger picture. Very cool of you to take this road :3

I love how, in panel 1, Nero looks so young and scared. It's like a reflection of his inner child.

While I'm glad Nero went back for Biro, his dad isn't wrong. As prey animals its survival of the fittest, and those who aren't are well... Food. However, if the entire herd stood against the wolves I think the wolves would've backed off. They aren't going to risk a whole herd of hooves and antlers flying at them. Though, the deer also can't risk being gravely injured either. Buuut, a true leader should protect his herd/those he leads- But, sometimes being a leader means making a tough call. Geez, I see like both sides of this and I guess it's just simply there was no wrong or right course of action.Β

Dorus that is NOT how you be a dad. Don't throw your kids around! Especially one who's already shaken up and hurt. You could cause more damage. There are other ways to discipline your kids than. You know. Being physically violent with them. Telling them that you're angry that he could have died while throwing him and his head with enough force to crack his neck isn't really a good way to drive the point home. Imo he's letting his anger get the better of him.
I understand the frustration, Dorus is right in that this was stupidly risky but... Maybe this conversation should have waited until after Biro was out of earshot. Conversations are not best held when your emotions are high. It's nice to see that Dorus isn't that perfect, flawless manly dado type character. He's honestly more than a little frightening here.

I feel really bad for Biro. He's already shown that he feels like he's a weak link and this isn't helping any. Hearing someone from such a high place of authority screaming that you should have been left behind, left to die, isn't something that feels good by any definition of the word. Knowing what I know of him, I suspect he'll be feeling plenty guilty.

Honestly with how much of a total, utter dick that Nero had been to Biro before all of this at one point (even if they had made up before setting out) I think that with Biro surviving it also means there's a chance Biro may not really grasp just how important those around him are. While it could be said that in saving Biro it means he feels fine with Biro but end of the day, mentally speaking that doesn't add the right impact I feel. If Biro had died, it would have been most certainly more of a "I shouldn't have been so mean to him back then" thought process versus a "He's safe so things are fine" which in Nero knowing he saved Biro, It'd be kind of nonsensical for him to suddenly have a much kinder attitude for Biro. Perhaps seeing and knowing Biro was almost lost could have been a bit of an impact like "oh crap, I shouldn't be so bad to him as I was or he might really be gone next time" but it could just as easily stay with "you're a freaking little weenie but I'll save you if I gotta" thought process.

While I think Nero was right and he's really a guiding star in that if the herd took a page from his book and all worked together to overcome their threats they really could prove to be strong together and that there is a chance they could quite literally become a force to be reckoned with against predators like wolves.

On the flip side though, fighting back against predators could also be risky as there very well could be lives lost and in that regard I think that good ol' Dad is actually being very sensible in his rational there. Yes, they 100% could have lost three members of the herd and Biro being that sudden hero was an incredible risk to say the least.

So where do I side here? Technically both. I can see where Nero was right, and I can easily see too where his father was also more than correct, too. Each end is both right and wrong here, in a sense. Nero did make a risky and potentially stupid move that while it may have been successful this time could easily be a complete failure next time, but at the same time his father doesn't really understand the strength they have together rather than "every deer for them self" though he also does realize the safety of the herd comes to mind and in a world that is literally wild where survival of the fittest comes into play on the daily, he has a point that one loss is better than many.

I totally agree with you, either way things are going to be so awkward for Biro. I wonder if the Dad will kick him out for endangering the herd

Ticklicous In reply to digitalbird06 [2019-06-24 00:00:38 +0000 UTC]

Not sure, honestly. It really could go either way for all we know. It's clear he's displeased with Nero's reckless behavior and I think that he could understand that getting rid of Nero may be the best route. Seeing as if it keeps up, it's too much of a risk to the entire herd. After all, one single reckless being is enough to effect the entirety. But at the same time, there could be a chance Dad may keep Nero around still in an attempt to see if maybe he will learn a lesson from the harsh punishment right now or maybe gets his act together. Though I'm doubtful he would, obviously Dad can maybe think so.

A really powerful moment here. It's honestly heartbreaking to see a brave (if reckless) and confident (if a little arrogant) character like Nero being beaten to submission.
His presence in the last few frames here is so small, so weak, such a harsh contrast to what we usually see.
I don't think he'll be the same again, at least not for a long while.

i am loving the comic so far its so cool!
so i do see where the father is coming from but he IS saying biro should of died! while he is right there watching and seeing this i wouldn't be shocked if the father just turns and tells biro to leave the herd in fear he would harm them all even so his son did do kinda a good but stupid thing to

from what i been seeing Nero is stubborn as heck and i could see getting to him to understand would be getting rough with him
but at the same dang time that throw was surely unneeded if nero was hurt further by that he would be slow that is IF papa doesn't hold back and tells his kid and maybe even Biro to leave in fear that they would just get them self's killed if not the whole hard killed as well

both nero and Biro froze what would of been a death wish if anything

but besides this stuff sorry for rambling on and on there XDD
can't wait for more!
