Your faces for these damn deer are always so beautiful <3 I pick out one line from the bunch I just adore and can stare at it for minutes before I notice another wonderful detail. I love the way you draw the fur on these pages, and how you've been doing the shading for those blue eyes. They're piercing!Β

But I still don't trust Fluffer. His smirk in the last page and his expressions don't sit right with me. Granted, the smirk could easily be from someone not used to smiling which is why it looks potentially malevolently intentioned.
Usma looked to Necklace doe before speaking up, so I wonder if Usma feels more comfortable/safe with her as opposed to this Sire. He cuts a very regal bearing, but something about how he looms over Usma coupled with how her expression shifts to one of fear(and regret for speaking?) in panel four makes me very concerned about what their relationship is like. I do appreciate how his gaze seems to soften in the last panel, but I'm still very wary of him.
Just from these two pages and seeing Usma's general reluctance to speak until she feels assured β and how hesitant she seems to be to say anything βΒ makes me wonder if she's accustomed to being ignored or silenced.
I also wanna know who she means by 'they'. Certainly not Helvise, since she is a she. The does that harassed her maybe? Who knows.
As a last thing, I'm very curious about what program you use for these pages. And what brushes you may or may not use. Especially with your detail to grasses and water. Your backgrounds have a very appealing painterly vibe to them and I could stare at them all day. Even though your backgrounds and characters are drawn in different fashions, the characters still fit into this world so nicely. I can't quite figure out how you do that; something about your shading for figures aligns in such a nice fashion.

Lovely speculations! It's always a joy to see how observant the readers are.
I use SAI for characters and bubbles, and PS (cc 2014) for backgrounds and effects. My brush folder is a mess so I can't really say what I use or don't, but most of them are downloaded from here . Happy to hear you like my backgrounds, thank you!

I think it's such a testament to your ability to write believable and relate-able characters that people are so conflicted about their feelings for Mr. Floof after just a few pages! I, for one, am quite fond of him. He is gentle, but stern. A fatherly figure that is not perfect, but caring and with a sense of duty. I can also understand why people are so protective of Usma! She seems thoughtful and discerning, yet she is bullied for not speaking up and (gently) scolded when she does! I personally love them both so far, and can't fault either of them for reacting to what are apparently stressful events for their herd.

I don't understand why people hates this guy just because he states that something is not arguable. He's being firm, not hostile, not even in his body language. I mean... is not like he's screaming at her or showing his antlers or whatever xD in fact he's being as soft as possible while being firm and that last panel shows that (he notices how she feels)
Maybe he's as old fashoned as the rest of sires we saw until now, I don't know, but for the moment he's the least a**hole of them xD

i can kinda relate to her issue. you have your own thoughts on a certain matter but sharing them is a no-no cuz you know you'll be rejected anyway. but a reasonable sire like him should at least hear her out, let her voice what's on her mind. just show some damn support. but to tell her that she should just go with the flow like that kinda gives me the impression that he's just like everyone else with that mediocre mindset.
what he said wasn't wrong. whatever happens, happens (his fancy way of saying "shit happens" lol) but no excuse to block his ears to what could possibly be an important matter that could be troublesome if left ignored.
who knows? maybe he knows something she doesn't and is just trying to protect her. not gonna judge quickly.

Like SilverCateh observed, it doesnβt seem that he is trying to be a mean character or abuse anyone in his herd, heβs just a leader trying to do what he thinks is best for everyone. Then again it seems a bit hard to read his emotions - he seems to be soft for her, but itβs obvious that thereβs something amiss. Itβs just the exchange of emotions that gets me.Β

I guess being strict with already bullied character is something that could easily spark dislike among the readers. I'm happy to read how he's received in any case.

Itβs easy to get attached to a seemingly sweet, bullied character like Usma (I believe thatβs her name?), and even easier for others to jump to outright disliking a character when said character doesnβt bow to the victimβs desires or wishes. Itβs like everyone feels that the character deserves to be heard, which is relatable. In this case, however, itβs reminding us that the world doesnβt revolve around one character, but many. I like this stag, his design is beautiful and memorable, and he seems strong, and strong-willed. This is only the 2nd or 3rd page weβve even seen much of him, and we donβt know much about any of these characters yet to really develop who is in the wrong and who is not.Β
Lovely work, as always! While the story has these slower paced moments, itβs nice to see more and more characters and dwell further into other plots in the story.

Me too, I dont think he is particularly harsh too, he is just saying to let things develop as they go, because yea, sometimes thing need to be just happens. Regarding their relationship, maybe Usma is his child? Since he call her Dove, and seem to be pretty fond of her, it just may be that since she is albino the family conection dont seem aparent right away.

I was thinking that to, but an option is that this group is culturally speaking, really into formalities, and her calling him sire could be a way to show to the rest of the group that there is no favoritism based on bloodlines, It would also explain to some degree the comment on page 75 with the other doe mention "You think you're to good to speak to us?". But im just wildly speculating all the possibilities and im open to all options of what their relationship can be: Father-daughter? Siblings? Lovers? Childhood friends? I'm all in for whatever Doe have in mind.
Regarding dove, its true that they show albinism pretty often, but not all dove are albino, and her bird is an albino owl, not a dove, wouldn't make more sense to refer to her as owl? In this case dove sound a little to endearing of a nickname, but honestly it could be me just reading to much into it due to how much the comic entertain me, so who knows? I could be 100% wrong on this.
