A retro cover I did as a commission of the original Suicide Squad. Had to admit I never knew about the original version. Sort of a 1950s version of X-Files. Pen and ink on bristol.Related content

That was quite a fascinating period in American comics, wasn't it. We'd just gotten out from under the fallout from Dr Worthams' anti-comics crusade, and were starting under the regime of the Comics Code Authority. Superheroes were mostly gone, although some of the big names remained intact (if somewhat sanitized), and sci-fi was big.
Some people also point to this period being the era of Big Monsters™ and the ever-present Atomic Holocaust™. The Fantastic Four would emerge from this trend, along with the Challengers of the Unknown and scores of others (mostly with Marvel) inspired by the genre.
Overall, a well-done piece that actually recalls the period in question. I kind of see hints of a little crossover between DC's characters and the Hollywood sci-fi classic there.
