In traditional Japanese folklore, there is a dance called the Ikai Okuri which is a traditional dance performed to appease the spirits of the deceased. This form of dance thus evolved into many various versions, one known as the Bon Odori, which is performed to entertain the spirits in the belief that when the dance ends, the spirits' welcome also ends, and they are expected to return immediately to where they came from.
There is a Native American lore of the same nature, where an old man witnessed the spirits of the dead return to their home village to dance at night.

Another popular Japanese dance is the Fujimusume - also known as 'Wisteria Maiden', where a girl as beautiful as a wisteria nymph, dances with all her love for a man in a background of wisteria.

For this picture, I wanted to combine all three elements of tradition, myth and folklore without being to limited to culture. So you have this mix of a tribal american japanese maiden dancing in an abandoned graveyard, dancing with her heart, dancing with her soul.

Dance, dance till your feet are weary
Till the moon unfolds and the dark is nigh
Dance, dance till your heart is heavy
And no more can your spirit fly

People die, and she dances. Will she ever stop dancing?
She is smiling, but is she really happy?

You can interpret this in more ways than one, I guess. Sorry for the long description.
