Description This is me 20 years ago. With the 1932 Luger I got kinda worked into buying from a friend/hardware-software dealer. Back when I was skinny. I posted it because one of you said I should. I learned to follow orders in the army.

This is the sepia version.

Dan took the photo and said, "Point it at me!"

I don't point weapons at anything I'm not going to hit. And pointing at the photographer only lets the viewer see a muzzle hole, which is boring.

I thought snapping the toggle -- chambering a round -- would be more evocative.

Somebody said this photo looked like a Phillopino gang member.

I don't know about a Phillopino gang member, but to me, you look like no-one so much as Rutger Hauer ~1982.

I don't think I've even touched one.

The only bad thing about a Lugar is because it is so precisely made it doesn't do well in dirty environments. That's why it was issued with a gun hugging holster with a flap.

I own a Browning Arms 9mm Hi Power made in Belgium and assembled in Portugal. It also makes no noise when shaken. I really like how my hand fits it and how well balanced it is.

If we ever get together, I'll let you take mine shooting. She hauls a little to the right, but she's nice (she's old).

Nah, they clean up real nice. They're kinda fun to take apart -- kinda like a Japanese puzzle box.

It's the extractor hook pin that can be trouble -- it's like a little metal mouse turd. German first sergeants used to keep boxes of those....

NICE, a Browning. Another nice gun.

We meant that if some idiot started shooting, the bullets would go right to the kids.

So we did NOT encourage the use of any kind of firepower in the neighborhood.

Still ran out two crack-houses, tho.

Your expression, whether it was intended or not, is priceless. (gun safety ingrained in you....not listening to Dan. Isn't that a rule? "never point a bow or gun at anything you don't intend to hit?" Makes perfect sense to ME.)

It's amazing the number of people who want to keep their first amendment rights who drink while they're shooting and have absolutely no clue that guns are not toys.

Marines, even more so, are almost psychotic about gun safely; they've had that drilled into them. If you ever go shooting with a marine, you will get the safety lecture first.

I don't know if I want the second amendment supported. Its language says that anybody who owns a gun can be put into the militia. That would take care of the problem with finding people to send to Iraq, wouldn't it?

If I even hear it debated, I'm selling this Parabellum so fast heads will spin. Then I will stand back and point and laugh as they drag off the gun-nuts to the war. Ha ha ha.

Maybe then they'll get some gun-safety training.

Good point. Gun's were banned here in the UK years ago. Has it had any impact on gun crime? Not really.

They are not as readily available, infact most people probably havent even seen one. I remember the first time I was afraid of a gun, it was an SA80 on my way into Glencourse Army Barracks in Edinburgh. Not least because it's such an awful rifle.

Here we still have gangs and guns, I suppose we always will, we have incidents with armed police officers shooting each other, and the public, and youths shooting youths with passers by getting caught up in it.

The world is a crazy place, if you commit a firearms related offence you should have to do some form of military service. Send them into a warzone minus a gun and maybe they'll learn there's a time, a place and a purpose for weapons, and they should be respected. Not used to gain respect. I doubt we will ever see a day when guns are not needed, although people argue in equil measure they are not need now.

I myself play airsoft. Although only BB guns, you still have to have a licence to own one in the UK. That came into effect November last year or there abouts. I'm content in getting my kicks in this form of activity, and I'll be happy if I never see a real gun again.

"Military service" for gun offenses?

Putting automatic weapons in the hands of people who've already shown they don't know hot to handle the things???? I'm joining the dolphins and leaving RIGHT NOW.

Speaking of dolphins, I like to go fishing. Which isn't good for the fish, but they taste so good.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DevlinGF In reply to DonnaBarr [2008-10-23 08:15:28 +0000 UTC]

What I meant was Military service without their beloved weapon of choice may make them think twice about the reality of guns.

For all those who point guns at people, to gain respect or to intimidate, if the tables were turned how would they react?

There are other jobs they could do such as mine sweeping... I know the fear of getting my legs blow off would make me think twice before commit such an offence. I guess my point is, in the UK at least, the punishment doesnt fit the crime these days. Small fines or short term prison sentences may be great for making the government money/ensuring we can fit more 'hardened' criminals in the already over stretched prison system, but long term it's not viable.

Speaking of fish, I'd rather have them as pets in a tank than eat them. Although fishing is quite relaxing, I've only ever been a handful of times. Just no where to go here, in this urban sprawl. Britian is just one giant car park.

DonnaBarr In reply to DevlinGF [2008-10-24 01:26:43 +0000 UTC]

The problem with using prisoners as soldiers or workers is that it is slavery.

You do NOT want to go down THAT bad road.

Our prisoners are filled up with people who got caught with a joint or two, or selling a baggie. Yours?

I'm fished out for the moment -- I just needed me some fried fish right NOW. I don't eat a lot of meat -- mostly just bits here and there -- but once in a while, I do love me some fish.

DevlinGF In reply to DonnaBarr [2008-10-24 08:22:08 +0000 UTC]

Maybe I'm just a crazy guy living in a crazy world. All I know is over here people who commit serious offences such as murder, large scale fraud, sexual offences and so on get a nice room, many with TV's (im talking plasma, high def) Playstations and many other luxurys at the tax payers expense. The same tax payers who can't afford to buy these things even for themselves.

Prison is a punishment, not a hotel... What a crazy world we live in. Maybe my views a extreme but it seems the politicians here are on the other end of the spectrum... or planet for that matter.
