For me personally D-Day is a two edged sword as I had relatives on both sides there. I will never glorify the bloodbath that it was for all combatants, but will always honor all those who gave their lives fighting for their loved ones.

Great picture! Yes, the invasion was a secret, but everybody knew it was coming sometime.
I recently interviewed a World War II veteran who arrived with his artillery unit about three weeks after the D-Day landings, and he saw evidence of the sacrfices that were made. The bodies of some paratroopers were still hanging in trees. They had been shot on the way down.

My Dad was part of Pattons ...
Feaux Army that HELPED let the Germans think the Offensive @ Normandy was a Ruse ...
He later landed @ Normandy a month later ... as part of Patton's 3rd Army.
Assigned to the 80th Infantry Division "Blue Ridge Mountain Boys" Dad carried the BAR. He was part of Operation Cobra, Break Out of Normandy ... he later fought in the "Battle of the Bulge."
He NEVER Forgot the "Longest Day" that secured the Normandy Beaches for him to land Safely on later to join in the Fight to Liberate Europe ! ! !
