Thank you Anastasya.
I really like this flower, though I still don't have any in my garden, it is not very suited for the soil we're on.

I seem to remember seeing them in California in the Tilden park botanical gardens - they always look so strange!Β

You get so used to the different flora here in Oz that things don't look strange anymore

It was a little weird in the beginning when I came across some of the flowers on bushes and in the fields that you would find as novelties in flower shops in Europe and here there are so many that nobody looks at them twice.

I am jealous! Β I only got as far as New Zealand - maybe after retirement...

what do you mean only as far as NZ, that's further then Oz, if you travel in an eastwards direction

We were travelling from US in unclear direction - island-hopping

Sounds like the perfect way to travel
Did you travel by boat?

No, by small air-plane - you could buy a month pass then with Pacific Airlines, I think, and take any of them, most islands were visited once a week. Β We went to Tonga, Samoa and Niue, I remember.

Ah I vaguely remember those passes.
Sounds like you visited some nice islands there

Niue was brilliant, Samoa was quite good, Tonga was truly depressing - fear and barbed wire... reminded me of homeΒ

England or the home where your name seems to be from (somewhere in eastern Europe, Russia seems to be the logical place)

That was lucky for you
Did you go back and visit since?

A few times, but none very joyful - when my grandfather was ill. Β He died a few years ago, so I am not planning to go back - no reason

I can understand, I am not a big fan of going back to Switzerland and that's without any of the negativity you had lived through before leaving.

For us it is hard to avoid going back, there are some major birthdays that we can't easily say no.

Pretty! Β Your description reminds me of the Christmas cactus I used to have in my kitchen window. Β It produced berries annually around December...but those berries were intoxicating, so I was careful to avoid them!

It is spring here and the spring flowers are all out, there is lots of colours around if you go to the right places.
