Description For such a small engine it sure ate up a lot of time, probably 7 or 8+ hours in the end but it was worth it, it was a big learning experience

I thought I'd have a go making something myself that wasn't based around a bogie design. It turns out it's a bit of a weak point of mine, who'd have guessed after looking at my gallery being filled with bogie designs? Not me...

Anyway, here's my first fixed wheel engine, a little shunting critter for medium to large yards and short transfer service (if required to go and pick up some wagons from a siding for example). It can MU with bigger engines and be run up to mainline speeds however it is best suited to slow lugging. I have no idea what kind of engine powers it at the moment so I'll probably make something up one day but it would have around about 1,200hp at its disposal through an AC traction system. The torpedoes on the roof are a pair of nice big air reservoirs for when it needs to charge up a long rake of wagon brakes to move them without having to wait for 10 minutes.

A couple other views of this critter can be found here:

All feedback and questions are welcome, I'm interested to see what people think of what I make

Loco design and model were created by me and are copywrite
If you want to share and repost it ask first, taking the pic and reuploading it elsewhere without asking is a massive dick move that'll make me want to punch you in the face

So this is an 0-Ao-Bo-Ao-0 or 0-1-2-1-0 configuration? Or just plain 0-Do-0 or 0-4-0?

I'd call it an 0-8-0 just a straight 'Do'. Though I think 0-8-0 would be the more official term since the wheels are fixed to the frame like a steam loco

Yes but for non steam locomotives they use the number of axes.
For example this JNR Class EF58:

designated 2CoCo2 which is basically 4-6-6-4 in steam designation.

Hmm, I've seen both used so I'm confused. I've seen Bo, Co and Do only used on bogie locomotives, at least in Aus and the US. Maybe it's an 0-8-0 and a Do at the same time?

Yes differs in system designation, as mostly countries use the number of wheels for the Steam engines in the designation system others use the axle system or a mix. So a 4-8-8-4 could be 2-4-4-2 or introducing the letters: 2DD2

That makes things a bit more simplified in a list like that, I guess it's a 'D' then

Oh WOW man... I absolutely love this design.Β  The fixed frame, the four axles, the stocky stance, the center cab and matching hoods, the stark industrial look... this is a winner.Β  I'd love to see one shunting around in real life.Β  For that matter, if I owned a railroad, I'd probably buy one.Β  Or several.

Barring that, it would at least be nice to own one in model form.

I can figure out 3D printing there could be one running around on a smaller scale, maybe.
It took quite a while to get the proportions to not look like ass so it's good to hear they achieve XD If you have a fictional railroad perhaps we can work something out if you wanted one

Thanks for the fav on it too man, much appreciated!
