The key to the markers - xerox your line art onto the appropriate paper (heavy stock w/ a smooth finish) and color the photocopy. That way lines stay crisp and clean and if you screw up you can always start over on a new copy. When you're working on the right surface however, professional markers are actually pretty forgiving. If I get color somewhere I wish I hadn't, I can use a lighter colored pen to lift it back off the page. It's not a perfect erase but it does help.

This must have taken you some time. It is very well done and the character shapes are superb. Well done.

Thank you. It probably took about 6-7 hours or so. I wish I'd spent another 1or 2 on the line drawing, cause I can tell where I rushed it near the end.

Thanks. Yeah, while I'm compitent in Photoshop, I like working in marker better. For one thing, markers tell me when I'm done with a piece - PhotoShop tells me "no, it's not quite done yet - keep on fiddling with it"- I can work on something for days and I never feel like it's finished. Also, when I color by hand I have something to matte and frame - an original piece that I can sell, or hang on a wall... not just a digital print.

Thanks very much. Wouldn't wanna cut into any of Sideshowmonkey's gigs tho - he seems to be Rob Zombie's goto guy.

Wow! Thats really a sweet illustration, love the ink and color work on this one, and you really did a great work catching the expression of fear and desperation in his face, the monsters are original and nicely illustrated wich brings the whole picture to be a top illustration! Great work all in all!

Thanks for the compliments. As far as the monsters go, they are representations of a number of mistakes I've made (and/or their consiquences) in the past couple years, so if they're original (and thank you for saying so) it comes from the fact that I was attempting to "Monster-fy" specific ideas/events/persons from my life rather than just coming up with cool creatures.

Thats a nice way to go about things, you sure have done a good job by giving them "personalities" so i can see how you have based them on things that have happend to you in the past. Great job!

damn, i love the way u handle markers.amazing. also, u seem to have some influences of todd macfarlane; at least it seems, by the kind of drawing..

Thanks. Yeah, I grew up on McFarlane's work, so his influence is certainly in there. I actually like Capullo's work better these days, even though he's really just McFarlane Part 2.

not the sort of subject matter I'm usually attracted to (I am a wuss when it comes to scary monsters) but- you did this with markers? Wow. Very skilled drawing, exellent communication of movement and emotion.
