i am really suprrised there has been such a surge with this twilight immortal dilemma. it is very interestig a though.
still simplified if they make this statment. the princesses celestia and luna sought immortality so they could protect equestria, though it was an incredly exhuasting quest both mentally and physically, in other words make it that twilight cannot accidentally become immortal. also state that twilight has no reason to become immortal. one day someone else will have to inherit the elements of harmony, else the power becomes stale and weaker, as it did in the hooves of celestia and luna.

it seems much more likely that that this is, in fact, HOW alicorns are formed. discovery of some great power, inner strength, transformation, alicorn. likely that is what Celestia and Luna did millenium ago. Celestia bonded with the day, Luna the night.
