I love my new tablet ^^ It makes things so much easier and precise

I'm trying my best to separate myself as much as possible from Flash. I did this on entirely on Photoshop CS3. It was a bit hard getting used to it but I've learned a lot of the essential techniques ^^.

Please comment or critique, this is new to me and I really want to know how I did ^^

I like the position of the wings rested, it seems very natural.
You use photoshop well, the colors and shadows are well applied and the result was great.
If you put textures will be much more realistic, but also much harder to do.... =/

Good work!

Yeah. I know I need to develop my coloring skills and learning how to use textures could be a good start... Thanks a lot for the comment ^^

Hum really ? They're quite different... Even though the scene is comparable I never saw that drawing before... But thanks for pointing it out anyway ^^ That pic is awesome

Ok, sorry for that. I really should not do that. I don't really like feeling like an interrogator.
ha ha well I guess I helped to find something you liked at least.

Dragon-Minded In reply to digital13388 [2010-01-05 18:17:47 +0000 UTC]

Nah, don't feel bad about it. It's only normal. But consider this, I'm sure that a lot of drawings on dA or anywhere else look alike, inspired or not

digital13388 In reply to Dragon-Minded [2010-01-05 19:23:10 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, and even if it was inspired it would have been no big deal. I was just being stupid.

Wacom makes great tablets in general ^^ Have fun with it then

mysticdragon01 In reply to Dragon-Minded [2010-01-05 19:22:46 +0000 UTC]

I didn't get to try it out yet; right after Christmas I left for vacation and our laptop doesn't have a laptop, so I couldn't install it...
Does a tablet help in drawing? Is it fun? And is it easy?

Dragon-Minded In reply to mysticdragon01 [2010-01-05 19:51:01 +0000 UTC]

Well, it's kind of special. Apparently, from what I've heard, either you love it or either you don't. The cool thing about tablets and digital drawing is that you can do great coloring and shading on your drawings. Of course, this requires practice and depending on the software, you might want to read tutorials . After all people are different. Some people (like me ) just draw with the tablet from scratch, some other retrace their paper sketches.

In my case, well I love drawing with my tablet ^^. After, calling it easy or not is delicate, all depends on the software you use (don't compare MS Paint with Photoshop for instance even if Paint can do some great things in good hands...)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mysticdragon01 In reply to Dragon-Minded [2010-01-05 19:56:18 +0000 UTC]

Well, we'll see if I like it once I try it. I will retrace my drawing, because I think that drawing by hand is better at first, and also (even though I didn't try yet) drawing on a tablet from scratch will probably be hard for me.
Luckily I don't use MS Paint. XD
I use GIMP, not sure if that's good or not...
I always wanted to buy photoshop but it's too expensive. :\ So I can't buy it, and my parents don't want to either.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dragon-Minded In reply to mysticdragon01 [2010-01-05 20:00:03 +0000 UTC]

Retracing is a good start I just really got used to my tablet. I don't even use a mouse anymore xD.

And yeah, Gimp is supposed to be pretty good software Photoshop is an expensive program yeah... Did you open your tablet yet ? Normally it should have included software or discounts. For instance, I got a 50% discount off Photoshop CS4 with my newest pen tablet that I'm actually not planning on using

(By the way, thanks a bunch for the watch )

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mysticdragon01 In reply to Dragon-Minded [2010-01-05 20:05:12 +0000 UTC]

We'll see, maybe I'll get used to mine too.
Yes, I did, but I didn't look through it too much yet. XD Besides, I don;t think I'd remember if I saw it, I had a really short time.
Wait, you're not planning on using the discount or your tablet?

(You're welcome! Same to you, and also thanks a lot for the favorites. )

Dragon-Minded In reply to mysticdragon01 [2010-01-05 20:08:14 +0000 UTC]

Okay ^^

Ah no you got me wrong I'm of course using the tablet, but not the Photoshop CS4 discount. I'm perfectly fine with my CS3 version and I don't want to pay another one even if it's half price

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mysticdragon01 In reply to Dragon-Minded [2010-01-05 20:10:57 +0000 UTC]

That's understandable... Although since I don't have Photoshop at all, I might as well buy CS4... I wonder if there's any significant difference between CS4 and CS3...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dragon-Minded In reply to mysticdragon01 [2010-01-05 20:13:59 +0000 UTC]

Hum, I don't know. I don't really use the full program's potential anyway so why bother with the new features ?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mysticdragon01 In reply to Dragon-Minded [2010-01-05 20:20:25 +0000 UTC]

I might as well buy CS3 since it's probably cheaper. I don't know, I haven't looked at the prices for a while...
Do you recommend to get the entire suite or just the actual Photoshop?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dragon-Minded In reply to mysticdragon01 [2010-01-05 20:27:05 +0000 UTC]

Just get photoshop, the entire suite is like horribly expensive and you will have a bunch of programs you won't even use

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mysticdragon01 In reply to Dragon-Minded [2010-01-05 20:34:36 +0000 UTC]

Okay. I thought so...
Let me see what the price is...
Darn my internet is so slow...
$699 for one program?!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dragon-Minded In reply to mysticdragon01 [2010-01-05 20:37:15 +0000 UTC]

They're crazy I know :S Stick to GIMP of get Photoshop Elements if I were you (It's basically the same but with less functions)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mysticdragon01 In reply to Dragon-Minded [2010-01-05 20:54:27 +0000 UTC]

I think I'll just stick to GIMP. It's pretty good, and I didn't have to pay for it.
I'll see how much Photoshop Elements costs... $79.99... Now that is much more affordable.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dragon-Minded In reply to mysticdragon01 [2010-01-06 15:27:14 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, Gimp is good software I'm sure (I personally never used it). And yeah, big price difference Do whatever you want in the end ^^ Elements should be perfect for just drawing as all the main functionalities are in it

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mysticdragon01 In reply to Dragon-Minded [2010-01-06 19:43:17 +0000 UTC]

We'll see, maybe I will buy Photoshop Elements... $79.99 is affordable... Or I might just stick to GIMP.

Dragon-Minded In reply to mysticdragon01 [2010-01-06 20:15:23 +0000 UTC]

If I were you, I'd stick to GIMP for now

It's much more smoother, that part's obvious. I like the shading as well I really like the background also, it's fantastic!
The only thing is the shading, I can't tell where the light source is coming from. Other than that, I like your dragon design! Does he/she have a name?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dragon-Minded In reply to kching23432 [2009-12-29 00:27:42 +0000 UTC]

Thanks ^^ Well, I tried to give a frontal light source. But messing with the wing's shading is tricky... Did that mess you up ?
Other than that yes, I'm very pleased by the smoothness ^^ It looks great
And yes, he has a name : Iroth, I will make a char sheet when I fell less lazy >_> (More like when I finish all my prize art x3)

kching23432 In reply to Dragon-Minded [2009-12-30 01:01:21 +0000 UTC]

Welcome The wing yes, but partly the tail also. For the wing, the base of the wing is perfect, but near the end of the wing, I get a little confused with where it's positioned when the first digit (relating to the skeletal anatomy of a bird) isn't shaded. And then, with the tail,it seems like the shadow should be closer to the tail since the light source to me is coming from the near upper left corner. Other than this, I really like him. He's got an awesome design. Kinda inspires me to draw him.
^^ you should make a character ref. Again, he's got a great design.

Ok thanks for the advice ^^

I'm really glad you like his design Draw him if you want, I will be more than flattered The ref sheet will be coming, don't worry
