I finally got a DS and Soulsilver about a week ago and it's totally put me into a Pokemon mood! So, I figured that since I love Pokemon so much, I should make some artist alley merchandise
I'm not sure what kind exactly yet, maybe bookmarks or key chains.I really like the way Dragonair turned out, mostly because she looks so slick and awesome. I struggled a lot with Gyarados to try and achieve the same type of look, but I suppose it's more complicated in design to begin with!
I finished these traditionally in ink first, and then colored them in Photoshop CS4.

Oh, wow, they looks SO AWSOME! I love how Gyrados turned out, as well as Dragonair. The style also reminds me of Windwaker type graphics.

I remember trying to catch/raise these guys in the Yellow version. O.o I HATED Magikarp after that. Never could get past that...

I usually got lazy and waited until later in the game when you could get Gyarados via catching it, I think that comes in a lot of the later games.
But... I finally raised a Gyarados again from scratch in SoulSilver xD; Because, I wanted to.

Thanks! I was really happy when I thought of coloring Gyarados red instead of its usual blue, so that it'd contrast more with Dragonair that way

I LOVE this hyper-stylized look. It fits the two perfectly. The rough lines make the characters look a little like they're in motion. And yes, Dragonair does look pretty slick.
If you don't mind me asking, when you drew these guys, did you draw them on the same sheet of paper? Or did you draw them on separate sheets and just put them together in PS? I know that might sound like a weird question, but I'm just curious. ^^'

And actually, I did draw them on separate pieces of paper, but as I was drawing Gyarados (which I did second) I kept the composition of Dragonair in mind and tried to visualize what it'd be like if they were right next to each other.
