Description

Excelo Region Legend Excerpt: The World Tree.

"The planet was young when one of the first civilizations formed on a barren landscape. It was crafted with a communal city surrounded by a massive stone wall... and a massive tree, a gift from the gods. Its leaves glowed an unearthly glow, producing fruits as bright as the stars. This tree granted the people there immortality, a concept that kept the city a prosperous utopia. A true Garden of Eden. However, this everlasting life was not without law and order. The gods gave the townsfolk one rule for their gift: "Thou shalt not take thy golden fruits."

"For many centuries, this oath was respected by all, but as time went on, the townsfolk began to get restless. Rumors started about the tree's supposed magical fruits. Did they possess knowledge? Power? The people did not know, though now curiosity ran rampant. A single human scaled the tree to harvest a single fruit. "Just one... just one." The human took the bite...

"A loud tremor shook the city to its core. Trees swayed, buildings shuddered. Then... silence. The human looked about in confusion. "What had happened?"

"From the earth burst forth an omen of the gods, the goliath legend present at the world's creation, the World Serpent. With eyes of rage the beast looked forth at the human who broke the sacred rule. A loud, fiery bellow emerged from its throat. The sky turned black, lightning flickered on and off. Citizens of the first civilization fled in panic as the World Serpent forced the city to fall to ruin..."

"Time passed, the people of the first civilization were no more. Immortality was stripped from humanity with this act, with none to recall it. The tree who bore the fruits of eternity was erased from this world, naught a seed nor root left where it formerly stood. The city, decimated, was eventually forgotten, built over, and succeeded by new settlers. As for the World Serpent, it returned to the center of our world to rest... guarding a secured gift from the surface."

EDIT(12/27/17): New design/artwork! Classification changed from Forbidden Pokemon to Eden Tree Pokemon! Excerpt revised! Arbor Vitae effect changed!

Hoo boy, now compared to Corodin, Deitreden didn't really age as well. Time for that TLC!

First we sprout some glowing leaves, and spread your roots! Fix that posture! And voila! Deitreden looks better than before!

I went back and revised Deitreden's story as well since it felt too cluttered compared to the other Excelo Excerpts I've written. Think this gets the point across much more easily.

Lastly, Arbor Vitae's a cool sounding signature ability, but the effect always felt out of place compared to Corodin's Terra Firma (also pointed out by a recent commenter!). As such, the ability's been revised, acting as a passive Leftovers for Deitreden. Think that fits better as well since Arbor Vitae translates to "Life Tree", meaning Deitreden's keeping itself alive with its effect!

And two down! Only three more silhouettes to go!

EDIT(09/29/15): Added BST provided by  !
EDIT(03/09/13): New display template and number! New ability and signature move names! Shiny coloration added!

Another legend returns, Deitreden! I may reread the story I wrote up there later and adjust it as I'm not too happy with how it sounds. Anyways, Deitreden got some notable major body changes since its last appearance, but otherwise is somewhat the same. The golden outlines represent the tree sap flowing though its body, as with the white orbs being the forbidden fruits. Also added to the changes is an "eye" on the visor of Deitreden.

A polar opposite in terms of raw power than Corodin, but regardless still a tank. Not even a tank, an entire fortress thanks to its ability! If it were to battle against a Fire-type however, it's ability would become null and void. But that doesn't stop it from walling the crap outta everything. Along with its powerful (yet hard to pull off) signature move, Deitreden learns a flotilla of moves pertaining to its type. Namely, Synthesis, Solar Beam, Wood Hammer, Metal Burst, and Iron Defense. As with Corodin, it also learns other moves such as Hammer Arm.

To me, it has an Ultra Beast type of vibe. I just really can't imagine this Pokemon being a natural by product of PokeEarth

I could imagine that it spends most its time motionless or dormant to where people didn't even know it's a Pokemon and just thought it was just a really unique tree that's one of a kind

That is til the day it had to move, also I love how it's based on the Tree of the Knowledge of Life

The Bible has tons of creatures and monsters in it that could be made into Pokemon

Dragonith In reply to PerfectChaos22 [2017-12-29 05:44:44 +0000 UTC]

It's definitely a primordial Pokemon with its design lol. Perhaps Arceus/the gods took it from another world as a gift? That'd be fitting, haha.

I could picture that as well!

And yeah, the bible does have some pretty neat designs for Pokemon. Glad you like it!

PerfectChaos22 In reply to Dragonith [2017-12-29 18:21:13 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, maybe it's from an Ultra Wormhole dimension or somethin or it came from a totally different plane if existence, like Giratina

Yeah, Pokemon like Groudon and Kyogre are based off the Leviathan and Behemoth from the Judeo Christian now that I think about it

I also heard somewhere that Perfect Zygarde takes some inspiration from the "Ole Serpent" from Revelations, it's just they made Zygarde less scary, instead of giving it 9 heads, the "Tendrils" on its back as well as its tail are a more simpler substitute to it instead

I think the theory came from YouTuber Lockstin's PokeTheories

leopardheart982 [2017-12-12 04:38:35 +0000 UTC]

Honestly, its ability seems too broken. It's basically Marvel Scale/Shadow Shield, which are already godsend abilities, but without the loss of effect after damage. This thing would basically be Zygarde Complete meets Lugia meets Ferrothorn in competitive Ubers. It should either be cut to 1.5x or less, or only work at full HP like the ability's cousins.

Marble/Jade/Onyx's been my own project for years. None of these designs are being used for any game at the moment. If someone else is also using those names for their fan game, it's purely coincidence.

Here's something I don't get about that bible story, no matter how many times it's retold: WHY WAS THERE FORBIDDEN FRUIT IN THE FIRST PLACE?! It honestly seems like God/Arceus set them up to fail.

It's more of a test to make sure humanity doesn't give in to temptation... where obviously, humanity failed.

Minebot45 In reply to Dragonith [2015-03-24 20:17:58 +0000 UTC]

Makes sense...I guess.

I also think it's a metaphor as to how something created in another thing's image never meets the same quality as the original(God created humans in his image).

SOTF [2015-03-21 18:18:58 +0000 UTC]

How exactly does the Tree of Eden become a monstrosity that can make miniature nuclear explosions via punches? (referencing Zedelgias here). I know the latter is a fusemon, but it begs the question.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dragonith In reply to SOTF [2015-03-21 21:41:34 +0000 UTC]

Lugia's powerful enough that it lives at the bottom of the sea to control itself. Combine that with the immortality of Deitreden and the ideals of Zekrom and you get insane levels of power.

Also nuclear level explosions are always fun, so there.

HoshinoTama777 [2015-02-13 06:31:14 +0000 UTC]

Considering its mascot rival, I'd say that ability really screwed it over. And if it wasn't that, it definitely got screwed out of getting a good signature move; all it got was a Grass type reskin of the super suck-ish move, Lunar Dance.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dragonith In reply to HoshinoTama777 [2015-02-13 19:46:48 +0000 UTC]

It sounds similar to Lunar Dance, but it functions completely differently. Lunar Dance fully heals your teammates, while Harvest of Eden can REVIVE your fallen teammates. Need your sweeper back up and running? Use this move. It has a lot of ways to potentially turn the tide that calling it an inferior Lunar Dance is just wrong.

Regarding the ability, yes, I may need to rework that later.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

HoshinoTama777 In reply to Dragonith [2015-02-14 02:06:35 +0000 UTC]

I admit that it's signature move has some good uses to it, but it just kind of seems like a waste to have it just randomly kill itself in order to heal an ally. Not nearly as big a waste as using a Mega Glailie just to use Spikes then Explode, but it's up there.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dragonith In reply to HoshinoTama777 [2015-02-15 00:19:39 +0000 UTC]

*Revive. Not just heal. That's a BIG difference instead of just simply "healing" a Pokemon. If Deitreden's at like say, half health, it can use its signature move as a last resort to bring back a more threatening ally. It isn't merely a waste. If Deitreden CAN'T take out a particular threat, it can bring an ally back from being KO'd to aid it. That's the whole point of the move. :/

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

HoshinoTama777 In reply to Dragonith [2015-02-15 01:00:11 +0000 UTC]

Even with that in mind, I still find it to be a waste since you're still going to wind up having something on your team dead either way.
