Description This guy here had been a kind of weird thought I had. You know, the original Werewolf wasn't anything more than a man (not a woman!) who transformed into a wolf with the help of a magical belt made from wolf fur. Nothing more. There was no influence of the moon, no half-man-half-wolf-hybrids, no gruesome transformations. Just a guy putting on a belt and turning into a normal-looking wolf. And, unlike modern depiction, the Werewolves were not mindless beasts- they were humans in the shape of wolves, so they were really smart (and usually tore up chicken coops or killed the livestock of people they didn't like).
On another sidenote, Werewolves and Vampires had nothing to do with each other, with the exception that slightly more modern vampires were able to turn into wolves at will too.
Eventually, the idea with the full-moon transformation came up, but it had been Hollywood that created the idea of this hybrid form, of Werewolves that transform only under the influence of the moon and turned into mindless monsters that could only be killed with a silver bullet, and that were able to transmit the curse via biting (or having others drink their blood).

So I thought: What if you'd draw a Werewolf that comes from a disease?
I designed these Werewolves in a way, making the 'Werewolf' disease like a sort of rabies that creates a form of atavism. Atavism- a modification of the genetic structure that has ancestral traits re-appear.
Which is why my Werewolves are actually man-like baboons. Because no matter how you twist and turn, you can not make a human into a dog. But you can make a human into a monkey- but explain this to some peasants in Europe that have never heard of monkeys that this guy here is notΒ a wolf.

Also, in my version, the person affected with the Werewolf virus can be helped with drugs following the initial infection to prevent a transformation. If not, then the virus will change its host over a long period of several months up to years, turning them into feral-looking baboon-like creatures. Only that most victims do not turn feral. It is painful and fully-formed Werewolves have to suffer through exclusion and stereotypes, though they are absolutely fine mentally.

I love that they're still totally wolf-like enough to be confused that way. Man I love the primate angle to werewolves

No, I read the author's comments, I know these are modeled after baboons. I was just saying that with the baboon angle, anyone who hasn't seen a monkey like it before can easily mistake that as a cross between a man and a wolf

Ah. Sorry, there are a lot of people who don't read the author's comment.
Well, to be frankly, I haven't thought of it either, until I read the B.P.R.D. Story 'The Infernal Machine'. You should try it.

Do werewolves still retain human rights in society or do they get put into reservations?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DragonlordRynn In reply to 123456789JD [2019-07-23 13:30:27 +0000 UTC]

On paper they have the same human rights. However, the stigma coming with being a Werewolf causes them to become outcasts in society, with all the problems that brings. So, many Werewolves either choose or are driven to live in seclusion with or without other Werewolves.

Since globalization, yes. Though since it can only be transfered via bodily fluids, it's rare. I mean, there are some assholes who bite others to transfer their sickness, but that's very local.

I actually thought of this idea too, it's interesting that I'm not the only one who thinks that a baboon could be a type of werewolf design because of how it acts and how it looks. And I like these designs and they look ferocious. Nice Job.

DragonlordRynn In reply to Multiomniversal124 [2018-11-10 07:38:45 +0000 UTC]

Well, yes and no. Like I said, it's a disease that activates atavistic genes and turns people into baboon-people.

Hollywood's portrayal of werewolves makes no sense anyways. Wolves don't howl at the moon, they rarely attack people, and they don't use their (blunt) claws to attack.

Yeah, and Werewolves were men who simply transformed into wolves using a magical belt. So Twilight Princess is pretty much the closest modern depiction of a werewolf.

That's a pretty damn good take on it.Β  Might have to remember this as a reference if I ever make a story with werewolves in it.
