Morel Hollow was overrun. In the few months she had been on the island, she had never seen so many cats. They perched in the trees and wandered the paths, clustered around bushes and in stores. She was constantly being jostled and nudged, constantly turning to find strange cats staring at her expectantly. It had taken only a few days for the islanders to realize she was deaf, but the influx of cats who did not know... it was intolerable. No matter where she looked or who she watched, there was always something going on that she could not follow. It was time to make an escape.

The spot was isolated, but it was not far. There were steep climbs and a few creeks between it and the hollow, which seemed to dissuade most cats. She had found it a few days after arriving, and it had become a small retreat, a sliver of the solitude to which she had grown accustomed. A small outcropping of rocks near the peak of a hill, looking on to a glen, it provided a spot for sunning, shelter from weather, and an excellent view of the Hollow below. As she stepped in to the clearing, she saw the clouds above and decided to head immediately for the antre above, not wishing to spend her day wet and cold. As the first large drops fell, she came to the mouth of the cavern and realized that she was not alone. Wide pink eyes stared back at her from the delicate cat, sat a few paces back from the mouth of the cave. Bundt ruffled her feathers slightly, almost embarrassed to find another cat already here seeking the same solitude as she, then nodded politely in greeting and sat herself near the opening. The rain was rolling in and they would have to share for a time. Perhaps the company could be pleasant.
