Description
I think I found the one thing more taxing than drawing lots of scales...drawing lots of ARMS.
This horror is an Afreinian mining worm, a specialized bioconstruct designed for the excavation and processing of rare minerals and precious gemstones deep underground. Its diamond-toothed maw lets it chew through the hardest rock and compacted soil, while its manipulator arms shovel dirt and stones into its maw for processing in its smelting furnace of a gut. The multiple arms along its sides may look flimsy, but are incredibly strong, pulling the worm through the ground as it tunnels. Its skin is thick and calloused like the hide of an elephant, keeping it safe from cave-ins, gas pockets, or irritation from friction build up or grains of stone that embed themselves in the worm's hide. As it tunnels, waste materials in the soil are burned up by the worm's gut as energy, while indigestible materials such as gemstones, ores, and other precious metals are refined, cleaned, and processed through the worm's intestines. These materials are then excreted by the worm as waste when it returns to the surface. They are completely blind (the eye holes on the mask are ornamental), but have a special sense that allows them to sniff out ore veins and crystal clusters in the ground, tunneling towards them at blinding speed. Mining worms are also one of the Afreinian's most difficult projects; before the modern variants were engineered to have their teeth grow in after they were birthed by their producers, there were lots of nasty accidents as juvenile mining worms would burst out of their producers before they were fully grown.
