Wow. Your art is so pretty!!

Umm... I did use this as a reference for a picture I did for an art challenge. Is that alright? I can take it down if it is not. I did give you credit.

All I ask is for credit, and seeing you already did that, you're golden! Β Thanks so much for sharing it with me! Your interpretation is gorgeous!

if we could make machines as mechanically advanced as a hummingbird's body...well I am not sure what would happen. This drawing is really cool though.

It would be a wonder of science, that's for sure!

Thanks for the compliment on my art! I appreciate it.

My sister hit a hummingbird, square on.
Not that that is relevant to the content of your image that is so eloquently done.... but it comes to mind every time I see a hummingbird.

FYI, she didn't MEAN to hit it, it flew up behind her and buzzed in her ear and she thought it was a wasp. She DOES feel guilty about it... and she DID put out some Humming bird food for it... but the mental image I get of her accidentally back-handing that little poof of feathers... kinda comical.

Anyhow, BUILD THIS THING. We can make an army of them... and we would be unstoppable.

Haha! I can imagine that scene would definitely be fairly comical! I would think the buzz that close would be enough to make me swat as well.

Thanks for the comment on this piece! I want to build one too. ;_;

I love this one more than the colored one, the shape is more dynamic and the details...sigh

Thank you! I'm actually right-handed so I rarely use the reverse pages of my sketchbook, but this little guy ended up there while I was trying to mentally figure out how the gears and such would work on such a tiny creature. While the color one is more refined in a lot of ways, there are definitely some facets of this one I (like you) actually prefer. This one reads as more dynamic and delicate to me.

Jolly good! Draw the schematics up and I'll buy one!

Dreamspirit In reply to klorel88 [2011-05-12 21:24:00 +0000 UTC]

Why thank you! I don't have any plans to draw up schematics at this point, but I do have prints of the full color painting I did concerning this concept available if you're interested.

Regardless: thanks for taking the time to comment!

Keep your eye out for another clockwork/mechanical critter too! I'm hoping to have it completed within a week or so. ^_^

Thanks again for taking the time to comment!

Dreamspirit In reply to therewren [2011-04-16 19:47:36 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! Some of these early doodlings still make me cringe a bit since I can see so many gears I entirely faked (rather than "mostly" faked), but there is definitely a nice progression that happened after this early "building block."

Thanks for taking the time to comment! I only just returned to DA so I'm still trying to get back into the swing of things here.

therewren In reply to Dreamspirit [2011-04-18 23:05:32 +0000 UTC]

Faking complicated mechanical bits is a long-used and cherished technique in fantasy and scifi art. As far as I'm concerned as long as the mechanism doesn't appear to be falling apart or nonfunctional it's completely legit.

I have a bad track record with comments on DA myself; I'm just starting to make more of an effort to reply to everyone I can.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Dreamspirit In reply to therewren [2011-05-25 01:35:19 +0000 UTC]

Very true about the mechanical bits. I think the one part I reworked loads of times on the final color piece was the wing-flapping gears. It drove me crazy trying to make sure it looked like they could rotate in a way that might VAGUELY give him lift (it still probably wouldn't, but better it make it look like he can hap-haphazardly flap than not flap at all!).

And yeah, I hear you on the comments... I am still trying to work through the bulk of them from 2005 onward and the amount of time it's taking is ridiculous. >_<
