Family:

  • Lance Walter (human father, status unknown)

  • Lauren Juline Montgomery (mother, deceased)

  • Turin the Bold (distant ancestor/maternal grandfather, deceased)

Hometown: Sisters, Oregon

History:

Kevlamin Ali Montgomery and his mother Lauren Juline Montgomery were the last living descendants of an ancient order of sorcerers known as the Line of Turin. Many of this order devoted - and lost - their lives to one sole purpose, the protection of Earth from all mystical threats, particularly one that would forever form the foundation of their battles: dragons, powerful elemental creatures that had reigned over the world since ancient times. When humans came into the picture, however, the dragons felt the power under threat, and so would begin a conflict that would never end until Kevin’s ancestors at last sealed the beasts in their own realm, hidden before our very eyes, using one of their own as the key to ensure they would never again plague mankind.

Kevin's human father Lance Walter had left Lauren sometime before his birth, and thus Kevin never knew him, nor suffered from that slight. Lauren, however, had been warned long ago by her late grandmother that a darkness would come to snuff out the last remnants of the Line of Turin with Kevin's birth, and fearing for her son's safety swore to do everything in her power to keep her child safe. Alas, but that would prove to be her downfall, as in her aims to protect her son, she sought the power to do so from the wrong source, the very being they had imprisoned so many eons ago...Teighenth.

Born of fire and darkness, Teighenth, also known as “The Destroyer” was and still is a fearsome opponent, a dread dragon far worse than Malchior in power and malice. His one pleasure - besides sweets - was wreaking destruction, hence his infamous title. With his immense strength, relative invulnerability, and his special ability to traverse the realm of Hell and the dead, he was considered the most powerful of his kind, and the most dangerous. Ironically, it was his own power that the Turin sorcerers used in order to trap the dragons in their own world, and with his imprisonment, he became the key his race needed in order to free themselves from the prison, and reclaim the world that once was theirs.

There was just one problem: only a Turin sorcerer could break Teighenth’s bonds, and there were none in the family who would be so foolish as to release such a dangerous threat. Or...were there? Teighenth might have been trapped, but he wasn’t blind to the ons and goings of the world beyond his reach, and in it, he found someone: a desperate woman, willing to do whatever it would take to save their son from a prophesied doom.

The key to his release.

The trick was getting Lauren to trust him, for although she had never known personally, the sorceress was not at all a stranger to the nature of the dragon, having known of him from many stories of old passed down by her family, so of course she had her suspicions. But Teighenth had learned over the years the virtue of patience, and he persisted, promising her powers beyond her greatest wishes. Powers to safeguard the one she held most dearly from all harm, powers to protect her son, all in return for his freedom. Eventually, despite it going against all her better judgement, the promise of a life of safety for her son became too great for Lauren to reject, and under Teighenth’s instruction, using the old magics that kept him imprisoned for so long, she gave him what he wanted.

It was here that Teighenth showed his true face to Lauren. Oh, he gave her the powers he had promised her, but now that he was free, he no longer had any need of the sorceress. Poor Lauren could only watch as Teighenth made short work of her home's protective spells upon his release, leaving nothing but twisted and charred ruins, and before her very eyes slaughtered her family, burning their corpses to ash. Then he turned on her and Kevin. She tried to escape at first, but it quickly became clear that the dragon would not give up the chase until they were dead, and none of her powers would be enough to subdue him...except the ones the dragon had bestowed upon her. Once again, Teighenth’s own power became his undoing, as he found himself once more in chains, except this time, inside the body of young Kevin. The magic would join their souls together permanently, ensuring that Teighenth could never again roam our world freely separate from his human host. The attempt of doing so would result in his death. But, as most things, this would prove to be a double-edged sword, as with their life-sources linked, it would result in Kevin’s death as well.

Lauren went on to set a seal that would prevent Teighenth from taking control until such time Kevin would be able to restrain him alone, and wasting no time when Kevin finally came into his powers at the age of eight, she schooled him rigorously in the art of control, for he would only become stronger with the years, and because of their shared link, so would Teighenth, and it was only a matter of time before the dragon would try and take advantage of this. But Lauren herself could never live in peace afterward - she would always live to bitterly regret what she had wrought upon her family. She never breathed a word of the events that occurred that fateful day, and made Teighenth vow likewise, fearful of how her son would see her were he to ever know what role she had played.

Lauren might have trapped Teighenth once more, but her woes from far from over. Teighenth’s power was never meant for a human to handle all at once, and eventually it began to consume her, weakening her powers and her life-force. It wasn't long before it became apparent to her that she was indeed fading, and there was nothing else she could do but delay the inevitable, and prepare Kevin as much as she could before her time ran out, all the while keeping her condition a secret. Slowly, nightmares began to haunt her, which soon turned into waking visions of hell, and on went Lauren's suffering, eating away at her bit by bit, until one day, as she and Kevin, who was nine at the time, were driving an unknown road, she experienced her worst vision yet, and the demonic words of prophecy reached her.

The Last shall fall by fire's wrath

What was stolen will be regained

Turin's Folk shall crumble to ash

Never to rise again

When the vision had ended, Lauren had spun out of control in the process, and fatally crashed into the woods, but with one last protective spell managed to spare Kevin her same fate. However, he was now an orphan, with no home to return to, and Lauren's death had broken the protective seal that inhibited Teighenth for so long. Thus, so began the Lost Years, as Kevin and Teighenth struggled against one another tirelessly, a constant war of wills that continues to this day. Eventually, though, they grudgingly accepted the fact that if they were to share the same body without driving each other mad, they would have to learn to get along, and a truce was established, albeit an uneasy one, but a truce regardless.

The two spent much of their time wandering and avoiding contact with the outside world, except when Kevin was forced to steal when the wilderness couldn't satisfy immediate needs. Teighenth enjoyed the thrill, while Kevin found it distasteful, but in the end it was a necessary evil - one that would ironically change his life for the better, as it eventually led him to meet the Titans, and while at first there was conflict when the incensed Teighenth became involved, an act of kindness by Raven, when she had gotten to know the young sorcerer better, and recognize his true nature, persuaded Kevin to join their ranks, and slowly become the better for it.

Time passed, and many great events occurred, as Kevin grew closer to the Titans, learned to master his and Teighenth's ever growing powers, and ultimately confronted and banished Trigon from Earth, and later on his fifteenth birthday passed the Proving, the traditional rite of passage of his family that would mark him as a true sorcerer of the lineage. But his training was far from over, as he soon found out when his late mother visited him in a dream, guiding him to seek out the House of Mystery, where he would find other occultists such as himself, a journey that would require him to leave the Titans, whom by now had become a family to him, and thus extremely reluctant to say goodbye to. He promised he would return after his training was complete, before departing, leaving his pet raven Poe as a messenger between him and the team.

Kevin eventually encountered the House's keeper John Constantine, who was shown to have known of Lauren before but had never been informed that she had had a child, making Kevin a subject of great interest. Since then, Kevin has made the House his home away from home, as he and Teighenth continue their training to honor the boy's family legacy.

A B O U T

Location: Titans Tower; House of Mystery
Occupation: Resident dragon expert
Alignment: Neutral Good

Powers and Abilities:
Telekinesis: One of the first powers Kevin came into as a child, it allows him to influence most physical systems without the need for physical interaction, through the means of focusing his mind to channel energy as a force against his target, be it inanimate or living.

  • Telekinetic Constructs: This same channeled energy can also be utilized by Kevin to temporarily erect structures and objects to give him an edge in a certain situation, including barrier shields to block attacks, or binds to restrain opponents. This ability is often used in conjunction with his pyrokinesis.

  • Conversive Telepathy: Kevin uses this skill to make telepathic contact with others and commune with them directly through their mind, a useful ability to have when you're in the heat of battle, and you don't exactly have the time to shout for someone to back you up, which is Kevin 75-80% of the scenario.

Pyrokinesis: Sorcerers of the Line of Turin often were born with the ability to control and manipulate the elements along with their traditional mystic arts. For Kevin, his element is fire, warm and beneficial when tempered, but dangerous if not contained properly. He can summon small bursts of flame when being cautious, to raging tornadoes at the very edge of his control, and beyond.

~Other Abilities~
Occultism: Due to his maternal family's natural history as great sorcerers attuned to the mystic arts, Kevin is a born occultist, able to perform most spells and incantations with little to no effort on his part. However, he is rather disadvantaged due to lacking the proper mentors, so Raven has taken it upon herself to pick up where his mother left off in regards to training.

Longevity: As a dragon, Teighenth is naturally gifted with a long lifespan, and with his and Kevin's connected souls, the trait is transferred to the young male as well. It stands to reason that they could live on for hundreds, perhaps thousands of years without the slightest sign of aging in both forms, once Kevin has reached past his teenage years and enters adulthood.

"DREKI BERTIST"/"DRAGON MANIFEST": A skill unique to Kevin alone, this ability allows him to temporarily borrow Teighenth's physical form as his own, thus granting him all of the dragon's powers and strengths in battle. The amount of energy required to perform the spell, however, taxes on his ability to keep Teighenth in check, as the dragon holds more influence in his own form, making the likelihood of him taking control much higher. As such, Kevin will only use this ability if absolutely necessary, or if he is emotionally calm enough that he can soothe the dragon's temper.

Limitations and Weaknesses:
While Kevin is skilled in the arts of sorcery, the training he received from his mother was only cursory compared to the rigorous studies his ancestors went through to truly perfect and hone in on their skills, and as his powers grow, Kevin suffers some of the repercussions of not having that tutoring, for example misjudging the amount of energy and focus required to perform a certain spell and either leaving himself severely drained, and/or causing needless destruction and injury to everyone in his immediate vicinity. Furthermore, he still has yet to master full control over his powers, and thus they are activated more on his emotions and instincts, which leave him vulnerable to manipulation to exhaust himself more than necessary, and put him in the path of danger.

Of all these risks, however, Teighenth lords highest, being a virtual embodiment of Kevin's rage and fear due to his insecurities. Should Kevin become too incensed, or if he is unable to defend himself to Teighenth's liking, the dragon will temporarily take control of the shared body, often performing Dreki Bertist against the young male's will in the process. Even after the enemy is defeated, Teighenth will sometimes continue to go through a fit of rampage, and it takes tremendous effort on Kevin's part to get him under control again.

(Following are suggestions from fellow members of the DNA group ^-^)

Stress: Kevin's mental state of living in conjunction with Teighenth's means he is more prone to copious amounts of stress than the normal human being. If he comes under too much than he can handle for one day and does not resolve it (ie. a meditation session with Raven), there is a chance that Teighenth will be unable to assist him in battle, alongside other repercussions.

Mortality: While Kevin is a powerful sorcerer, he is still human. Teighenth can protect him from most potentially life-threatening ailments and wounds by activating Dreki Bertist and rapidly healing in his own form, but if Kevin experiences too much trauma and physical damage at once, the dragon is unable to help him, as it will do more harm than good.

Personality: Shy and reserved, Kevin often acts like any wild animal would in the presence of humans: keep a safe distance away rather than risk the danger, to himself and to others. His five-year isolation from human contact has left him severely crippled in regards to social interaction, and thus makes him extremely anxious and nervous during the rare instances he will converse with another person. Even Starfire, who could easily bring a smile to anyone's face with her bubbly nature, had quite some difficulty getting the boy to be comfortable around her, unused as he was to any friendly interactions.

Back then, Kevin wasn't always so closed up, being bright and jovial with a slight timidity normal for a young child growing up under the loving care of his mother. That changed with the start of the Lost Years - the time following Lauren's tragic death and Kevin learning to cope with and restrain the dragon entity Teighenth, and fending and providing for himself in the woods. Furtiveness and caution became his defining traits, useful for when he had to be careful with thieving in the suburbs, and eventually the city when the forest could not provide him everything. He was always ready to bolt at a moment's notice, and did decently with his precautions, but fear is a slow poison, as are anger and resentment, emotions he had to constantly rein in so as not to incite the fury of the beast he carried within.

When Kevin ended up with the Titans, he was reluctant to completely trust and accept them as his new team, mostly due to fear of being left alone again. Slowly but surely, however, things took a turn for the better as he learned to confide in them, and bits of his old personality poked through. Cyborg and Beast Boy were instrumental in bringing out his playful side, either through video game sessions or humorous jokes. Starfire, while at first off-putting with her exuberant attitude toward everything, showed him it was ok to be open with others. Robin taught him confidence, but it was Raven who provided the most important lesson of all: no matter what your origins are, or what your past was like, they do not define you. What is done in the present is what matters most, and you can choose who you are to be. Ironically, when Raven knew her destiny was approaching, it was Kevin who reminded her of that fact, having taken it to heart.

There are still times when Kevin can be rather insecure, especially when it comes to meeting new people, but he has improved much since his time with the Titans, and these days won't shy away as much from human interaction, just as long as they are slow about it.

Status:  Taken
Love Interest(s):  Raven [formerly]; Sigrid
Best Friends: Teighenth (his inner demon dragon); Alex/Awendela ( The-Ziggizteromgplz )

Teighenth is something of a guardian figure in Kevin's life, even with their initial animosity towards each other during the Lost Years, when they first began vying for control of the same body. Having spent years connected to the young man's soul, the dragon has become attached to Kevin, and though he is harsh and hostile on the outside, with a bossy sarcasm and a habit of playing the devil's advocate, there isn't anything Teighenth wouldn't do for him, and will do whatever it takes to protect him.

Taken ||: It seems almost convenient that the person Kevin would fall for and have a sense of understanding with would be none other than Raven, who also has had her share of demons, being the offspring of Trigon the Terrible. At first, the two seemed an unlikely match – the sorceress scared Kevin a lot, and his ability to transform into a dragon made him a subject of distrust to Raven when they first met. However, they slowly but surely found ways to connect, and inevitably became drawn to each other. Kevin's fear gave way to curiosity, followed by attraction; Raven's distrust turned to sympathy for his past, and as they spent more time together, she became affectionate of the young sorcerer. Neither, however, admitted feelings for the other, unsure of how the other would react, but fortunately that was resolved one fateful evening through rather blush-worthy means.

The two are currently in a long-distance relationship, Kevin's pet raven Poe being their main method of communication in between the times Kevin comes to visit the Titans when his training allows it.

EDIT #2: Updated Kevin's image. Artwork by ServantofEntropy

EDIT #3: Updated Kevin's age to be 15, since it came to my attention that Raven was 14 in the JLD / TT vs JL Universe, and I still wanted to keep Kevin paired with her in this universe Also added storms to his list of dislikes.

EDIT #4: Updated Kevin's image. Artwork by NightChrysan

EDIT#5: Just did a full on rewrite of Kevin's history, holy fuck. No more Teighenth being affiliated with Trigon, oh, no. Now, he's from a world much more dangerous

You are so very welcome!! Lol when I saw his profile this morning I sent it to a few people to check out before I'd even finished reading. "Look at this." Also lowkey: where did this come from how have I not seen this.

I KNOW THAT FEELING. |D Everything feels extra High Stakes when it involves your OC darling. But seriously, well done. A loooot of thought and care went into this character. It shows.

OMG nearly four years of thought and care XDDD When I first thought of him, he was extremely cringy, I can't even begin. I nearly forgot/gave up him until about last year, when I suddenly pulled all this together over the course of three days after doing a roleplay on another website with him, AND a freaking homework assignment I did featuring him XD But I'll be damned if I say I wasn't proud of the results

NightChrysan is the one who did Kevin's artwork ^^ She did him as a commission for me using a Young Justice/DC character base as a reference. The application template belongs to hlwar
