Description David Larrabee: Are you sure you don't want to go with her?
Linus Larrabee: Why should I want to go with her?
David Larrabee: Because you're in love with her.
-----

Sabrina was one of the very first chick-flick movies I liked, and was one of very few black and white movies I liked as I child. It was also the very first Billy Wilder film I ever saw (of course at the time, I couldn't have cared less about directors/writers/etc).
Now that I'm older, and can appreciate all the wit that is Billy Wilder, I love this film all the more.

So here we have Audrey Hepburn as Sabrina, and Humphrey Bogart as Linus.
...now if only I could draw Humphrey Bogart better.

*sigh* They just don't make men like they used to. I want more men like Humphrey Bogart, William Holden, Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart, Clark Gable, Charlton Heston, and Laurence Olivier! <:^)

Uh, anyway. Sabrina is a very sweet, and beautiful movie. Excellent in every way.

Tried white ink for the very first time. I think I love it.

This was such a cute and beautiful movie:3. I miss movies like this

*le sigh* I wish there were more like Humphrey Bogart, and the other golden actors too. But its a little sad to say, our generation hasn't come up with many good actors. There are a few but even they are having trouble keeping up with this generation because everyone wants young and new actors.

you know they orginally wanted Carty Grant for the Part of Linus but he backed out at the last moment. think how wonderful it would have been if Cary had taken the part.

Yep, I know~
While I definitely think Cary Grant would have done a great job, I think I prefer Humphrey--because you wouldn't expect ol' Bogey to fall for Audrey.

This is beautiful! You know they did a remake with Harrison Ford right? <333
It's good in its own way, but there's no one like Hepburn and Bogart!
So pretty!

Yes, I know of the remake. Never seen it, don't really want to. I like Harrison Ford and all, but no one can replace Bogart.

I know the feeling. I *had* to watch it because my grandmother loves Harrison Ford.

I'm going to shift through the rest of your gallery if you have more old movie stuff. I was raised on black and white films and movies and I love them so!

I be major Marx Brothers fan.

Yep! I adore classic movies. A LOT. I would die without them.

I haven't seen the Marx Brothers, though. I want to, because they do look very good.

They are. They're not romantic, just nutty as hell. And you've gotta watch the right ones too, can't start with the wrong ones lol. Make sure you see "A Night at the Opera" and a "Day at the Races" first. Those are the best.

This is one of my all time favorite movies. I've worn my copy out with too much watching. And Humphrey Bogart in this...swoon. Way better than Holden. So glad you added these two to your CC.

Don't forget to add Gene, Fred and Frank to that list--but you DO have excellent taste.

Yes, Holden was dreamy, but... *sigh* Nothing compared to Bogie.
Ooh, yes! I adore Gene, Fred and Frank.

Movies back then had real stories to tell, real life to them. Nowadays it's about blowing things up.

Sad, but true. <:^( Back then filmmakers had to depend on well-written scripts, instead of just special effects.

Well-captured, milady, especially in their expressive eyes. This would probably have been after the events of the movie proper, but ... I always wanted to see how things would be after a movie like this had closed its window into their lives {g}

As for men not being "like they used to"? Well, Harrison Ford ain't no slouch in the remake. But he and Julia Ormond just didn't have quite the same magic, even though the plot was nearly the same.

Bogie replaced Cary Grant late in the casting process. I adore both of their work, but Grant was not quite earnest enough to be the businessman conquered by unexpected love. Unconventional lover, but Bogie ended up fitting.

And the wry magnificence that was Billy Wilder's filmmaking ... ah, don't get me started!

DrMistyTang In reply to Greybird007 [2010-07-04 03:58:29 +0000 UTC]

True, I do like Harrison Ford (a lot), but... it's just not the same.
I haven't actually seen the remake. I don't think I ever will. I mean, if you can't improve on the original, why bother? >:^P

Ohoho, I didn't know that. Cary Grant would've been alright, but I'm too used to seeing him as the debonair guy in his other roles. X3 Bogie was perfect!

Tarlea In reply to DrMistyTang [2010-07-06 21:10:13 +0000 UTC]

My main problem with the new one is that they took out all the great dialogue from the original. It was no longer the heartfelt comedy the original was.

DrMistyTang In reply to Tarlea [2010-07-06 21:16:44 +0000 UTC]

That's why I've promised myself that I will never see the new one. If you can't improve upon the original, then don't remake it. >:^P
