Description "We survived Monster A-Go-Go, we can survive this!"
-----

Mystery Science Theater 3000 has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. It means a lot to me. It never fails to make me laugh and just feel happy.
Favorite Joel episodes: Hercules Unchained, "Manos" the Hands of Fate, I Accuse My Parents, Gamera vs Guiron, The Magic Voyage of Sindbad... There's a lot. I could go on and on.
MST3K is a hilarious show, really nice sense of humor, highly recommended. Look it up, give it a watch, and keep circulating the tapes~

Nice one. This is one of those few shows that never gets old.Β

I'm more of a Mike person, but a lot of my favourite episodes are Joel episodes, so I'm not sure what that says about me.
My favourites are probably Pod People, Jack Frost, I accuse my Parents, Teenage Strangler.. ..er! Too many to list!! I love your rendition of this guy. I wish there was more great fanart for this show.

Thanks very much! I'm glad you like my little tribute to him.
I'm the kind of person who doesn't really choose favorites. Some days I'm a Mike gal, sometimes I'm a Joel gal. They're both brilliant comedians, but in completely different ways.
Heehee, all the ones you listed are some of my favorites too.

I always did like when they played up that Joel was basically the Bots' dad.

I guess that means Mike's gotta wait for your Average Looking Rommates series or something, then.

I love MST3K. I'll admit, I liked Mike a little bit more than Joel, but they both provided funny moments for terrible movies

DrMistyTang In reply to Dancergirl88 [2015-03-20 02:30:23 +0000 UTC]

I love both pretty equally, but the scales tip towards Mike more often than not for me as well. It depends on my mood most of all, really.

lilminette [2015-03-07 15:25:45 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, "Gamera vs. Guiron" is one of my favorites too. (My favorite of the "Gamera" saga.) "Gamera vs. Zigra" may have Gamera playing Zigra's scales like a xylophone, but Guiron's design was funnier, and the movie has those great, goofy music cues.

Really all the Gamera movies are gifts to mankind. They're so wonderfully bizarre.

I still haven't seen the series in its entirety but I also enjoyed Herc Unchained and Manos and with them Herc Against The Moon Men ("Would you fight me?" - "Pizza Pizza my ass!") and Warrior of the Lost World ("I had the right of way I did." - "This isn't Mad Max, it's Sad Max.").Β

I've seen a lot of the series, but not every single episode. It's always so fun when I watch a "new" one.

I first discovered the series when my uncle loaned me the movie (This Island Earth) and when started seeing videos of it on the shelves and saw Joel instead of Mike I was like "Hey, that's not Mike. Who's that guy?" And while I've still only seen a handful of eps I feel like I'e racked up more favorites with Joel (even if only a few) than I have with Mike, even though he was the host I was first introduced to, even though Mike is just as funny as Joel (albeit for different reasons) and so even as a casual fan I feel bad that I don't have more eps with Mike that I love (among those that I do like a lot though are "Zombie Nightmare" with Adam "Batman" West and "Alien From L.A.").

If you're looking for some great Mike episodes, some of my favorites are Girl in Gold Boots, The Brain that Wouldn't Die, Overdrawn at the Memory Bank, Soul Taker (this one has an appearance of Joel in it as well!)... It's one of those lists that don't really end.

Ooo, well you gotta go back and watch some Joel episodes! The ones I listed are good ones to start with, I think (though I'd hold off on Manos--that one is a little tough even with Riffing, hahah).

I enjoy Diabolik, Space Mutiny, Jack Frost..though I prefer the shorts, like 'Here Comes the Circus!' And 'Body Care & Grooming' ("Hey, is this an infomercial? Β Where's Cher?"

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DrMistyTang In reply to superpower-pnut [2015-03-04 13:04:23 +0000 UTC]

Those are some great episodes! Space Mutiny is totally a favorite of mine ("my grandma daughter"). My dad is really fond of Jack Frost as well. I really like those Russian films they featured--technically they really aren't "bad" films. But they definitely have the element of the bizarre, which makes for wonderful riffing material (and awful dubbing).
Oh man some of those shorts definitely trump some of the full movies they did. My favorite short is probably "Signs of Life". OH, and the Gumbi short.

Glamis-Cawdor In reply to DrMistyTang [2015-03-04 16:36:37 +0000 UTC]

The Russian films are a lot of fun to watch. Very interesting visuals, and practical effects, to go along with the general wackiness. The Day the Earth Froze, Sword and the Dragon, Jack Frost, The Magic Voyage of Sinbad... still some of my favorites, and a lot more enjoyable than the genuinely bad movies they riffed. I'm looking at you Coleman Francis & Joe Don Baker.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DrMistyTang In reply to Glamis-Cawdor [2015-03-04 18:49:04 +0000 UTC]

Definitely! I'm pretty sure that when those films are seen in their original Russian (unedited, undubbed), they're probably really lovely films. I haven't been able to find them in their unaltered forms, but still I really enjoy them. They're actually little gems of cinema, I think. Especially since they came out of Russia in the 1950s. They're kind of incredible.
Oh man, Coleman Francis and Joe Don. Those movies are also incredible--but not in the good way. Oh, and let's not forget Robert Lippert (though outside of MST, he actually had a hand in some genuinely greatfilms) as well as Roger Corman!

Thank you Grimms~! ^o^ I love Mike and Joel pretty much equally, and it's really difficult to say which I feel more affection for. They're both so great!
Also, although you've suffered through the RiffTrax for "Manos" with Mike, you gotta experience the "Manos" riffing with Joel sometime.
