Nah, they stayed inside because murder would happen if they left. After getting their faces smashed into a wall by Ling Badger and Pecan have sort of given up.

theory time, the bars are probably spaced because they had confidence the major could keep them in, however there was a secret sass weakness deep within the major's inner self.

....that was actually my thought process for this
the major is pretty socially awkward/has low self-esteem and generally doesn't talk to the others, but he is a good soldier so everyone thought he'd do okay guarding two magicless aliens.
Everyone was so wrong Badger and Pecan have been here less then a day and already they've messed up everything and everyone.
