Hi. Thanks for your comment. The skin was mostly Ultramarine, White, Cadmium red, Raw umber and Burnt sienna. With acrylics, it's a case of building up the tones gradually. I start with the darkest areas. When I've got the basic tones looking reasonable, I use tons of thin washes to help blend everything together. I then darken the areas that need it, working my way up to the lightest parts (usually pure white) and repeat the washes. It's quite a long process but I find the washes really help (of course, this technique only works with acrylics). I love using acrylics because it's easy to tone up (or down) areas that need it.
As for tips on painting portraits, I draw out the main areas first (face shape, eyes, nose and mouth). I then use a thin brush to outline the eyes, nostrils and the crease of the lips. It's vital to get the features right as you only need to get an eye out of place or the mouth off centre and it upsets the whole picture. Concentrate on getting these right. I always do the hair last (hair is not as difficult as it looks but it is time consuming).
Hope this helps. I'd love to see how you get on so please feel free to let me know. Good luck and if you need any help, don't be afraid to ask.

Thank you very much. I used acrylic paint. Mostly Windsor & Newton along with some cheap stuff I got from WH Smith.

I work about 4 or 5 hours a day (sometimes more) and it took about 5 days, so that's about (quickly counts on fingers) 25 to 30 hours at a guess.
