What is that hole in his left palm? Some kind of las-weapon?

a "kinesis module" in Dead Space terms. In 40K terms, some bit of techno-arcana

Excellent work. Did you use an Iron Man image for reference?

nah, the thing on his hand is inspired by Isaac's kinesis module. I drew the whole thing without ref tho.

Yeah you're right. I really like the Striking Scorpion. I like the Escher gangers to, I'd just prefer that piece to be of a single character.
Do you do all your work in pencil and coloured pencil and paper and then scan it in? I keep trying to simulate pencil styles in Photoshop and I've tried so many custom brushes none of them feel right.

All the monochrome work is several different grades of pencil. When there's a coloured tint, that's usually added when I'm adjusting the scan in photoshop. PS isn't great for simulating pencils, tbh, there's another art program that does that much better, called Artrage.

Thanks for the feedback. Artrage: I think I've got a free trial for that with a magazine. I'll have to give it a go. Either that or buy a new set of pencils. Even with a tablet everything seems to turn out over heavy in photoshop. That and I overdo everything and end up with the charcoal look. Not sure if thats my style or just a bloody mess. Anyway cheers for that.

how you getting on with Artrage?

Chris-919 In reply to dukeleto [2011-10-26 12:00:47 +0000 UTC]

Well I'm enjoying the pencil brushes. They seem a lot better than any Photoshop equivalent. The airbrush also seems an improvement over Photoshop.
I must admit I haven't been doing that much drawing since I'm concentrating on my 3d work because its light years ahead of my drawings and paintings, which no matter how much time and effort I put in always look like kids scribbles and finger painting.

Yay... more "real" art from you . So he is a mix of a WH40k Space Marine and someone from Dead Space?

dukeleto In reply to Robbe25 [2011-09-23 11:59:08 +0000 UTC]

that's the idea, yeah! When I had it, it was fantastically original, unfortunately before I finished it, at least 2 other people had the same idea...

Well, see it this way: Among (at least hundreds) of WH40k artists, you were one of 3 who thought of combining a Space Marine with aesthetics of Dead Space
