"Freedom" closely follows not only the style but the intent of the French Pointalists.

Color: Avoiding the temptation to optically mix color compliments, the artist has correctly pre-mixed colors for specific areas and used adjacent colors for blending as needed. The Yellow-Blue contrast gives the painting a vibrant, dynamic mood that is appropriate for theme.

Composition: The artist has avoided a common mistake of haphazardly mixing different pictorial strategies and used a flat graphic style throughout and that bringing everything close to the picture plane. This graphic style is reinforced with the consistent dot size. The slanting of the clouds introduces dynamic angles that also reinforce the theme. The stylized shapes and forms fit well with the flat picture plane.

Proportions: The stand of trees lacks definition along the trunk lines. The artist must have struggled against the self-imposed limitation of dot size and lacked the resolution needed to represent that area. Rather than making a brown curve along the base of the tree stand, I feel it would be improved if it were represented by a series of horizontal lines. In a stylized picture such as this proportions are not as important as strict realism, yet the horse could be better. It's hind quarters is a bit large and the curve of the belly sits too low (it also has a reverse curve as it goes back, generally). I think it would be improved if the pose of the horse mimicked the slant of the clouds.

Summary: Although it has some minor faults with proportion, the painting is generally well executed and the overall impact is happy and joyous.

This painting is beautiful. I looked at some of your earlier pointalism paintings, and I'd have to say that you've really progressed in technique and use of color. The only thing that's bothering me about this painting is that it kinda looks like the horse is floating to me. It may just be me though. Are all of the horse's hooves off the ground in this painting? I know at certain times while horses run, all four of their feet leave the ground at the same time. Is that what's going on here?

thank you And no, it's two back legs are meant to be on the ground, but I can definatley see where I messed up in the shading to where it looks like the horse floating. I didn't extend the darker shades in the shadow to the back hooves enough. I'll just have to be more careful with that in the future, thanks for pointing that out though.

Thank you I used the butt end of a brush that I sharpened and sanded down a bit and just dipped that end into the paint and started dotting.
