There tends to be a misconception that all Atheists are smart. Yes, a great deal of them ARE indeed quite intelligent. But hey, that is a stereotype. I have come in contact with some really... er... not educated Atheists, whom take on the title of "Atheists" because they are being defiant, or want to look cool.Also, not all Atheists know a lot of stuff about philosophy.
So think before you make some sort of stereotype. Sometimes even the flattering ones aren't true.

I love it when an atheist says something incredibly illogical (and proven scientifically incorrect) then follow up that statement by bragging about their 'intelligence' and how loyal they are to science.

I've come to the realization that many self-proclaimed atheists on the Internet are trying to look cool. I'm sure most atheists on the Internet are telling the truth about their lack of religion, but I think a lot of them are trying to be cool. It's basically like being a hipster. (Most hipsters are atheists, yet a lot of them wear religious symbols. As a Catholic, I feel the same way about non-Catholics wearing rosaries. The fact is, rosaries actually mean something to Catholics. Apparently, Anglicans use them too, and so do a few Lutherans, but most other churches don't use rosaries. Hipsters wearing rosaries makes my blood boil.) But anyway, atheists are no more intelligent than anyone else. Religion and intelligence do not correlate. There was seriously an IQ study that claimed that Muslims had the lowest IQ of any religion. I've met intelligent Muslims and seen even more online. Atheism does not equal intelligence. If anything, the Internet proves that atheists can be just as stupid as religious people.

Atheism isn't like yoga, or kale, or homeopathy. It's not some trendy new age "I'm so cool because I'm pretending to be spiritual" thing. Atheism isn't a fashion statement & no, people aren't treating it like it is. Sure Christians would like to think its a fashion statement, that way they can pretend people aren't simply opting out of their specific superstitions & waking up to the fact that no other set of superstitions are any more grounded then those of Christianity.

Intelligence isn't even truly connected to groups of all types. It connects more to your personality, in my opinion. Doesn't matter if you're Atheist or Religious.

Yep, and not all atheists are accepting of people who are different to them--i.e. some are racist, transphobic, homophobic, ableist, sexist and very into body-shaming.

We atheists just hold the belief that that deities don't exist. That doesn't mean we were born with super mega brains and can find a cure for cancer. We just have different beliefs.

I agree. Not all Christians bash people yet not all of them are loving either, and not all atheists are dumb and not all are geniuses either. I wish more people would realize that and get over themselves :/

That is true. I once discussed here in deviantART with one atheist that believed that all muslims are terrorists and when I gave to him plenty of facts that he was wrong (that most of the muslims are not terrorists) he only copy-pasted some web pages to me that were full of propaganda about muslim terrorists and he didn't want to change his opinion about all muslims.
There is some atheists that have a really good knowledge about all religions and there is also some very ignorant and prejudiced atheists that insult all religions.

Don't I know it. I'm religious and I'm not claiming to be smarter than anyone since I know that I'm only human, but some people are real idiots. It's not a requirement to know evverything. I usually hang around people who I deem have a similar or higher form of mentality as myself. I don't like hanging with low caliber or low intelectuals. Hope I'm not sounding like a snob, but I can't stand when people say some of the stupidest shit!

No, no, you do not sound like a snob at all. I totally know what you mean. I honestly appreciate a person as, well, a person. But I prefer hanging out with people with a more intellectual mind, people who challenge things, and can have a good debate.

The Atheists that act 'smart' and tell other Christian's there is no god, give all the decent and kind atheists a bad name. I met a very nice Atheist on here and he is one of the coolest Atheist I ever met XD We get along great even though we have different beliefs.

Athiests have always baffled me. Some have been really nice, a lot of others have been complete douche bags, some have been totally bigoted and anti-religious, some are incredibly tolerant. It really goes to show how stupid stereotypes are.

It really bugs me when I see a Christian being a jerkass. Like, Christianity is all about love and forgiveness. But all throughout history, you can see people with those supposed beliefs being complete hypocrites... It really kinda wears down on your hope for humanity, it really does.

If there was a 'like' button, I would like this post. Ha. I mean, you're completely correct. Christianity IS about forgiveness, and spreading kindness. If you are being cruel and judgmental in the name of God, what is the point? I myself am not Christian, but I do have a degree of respect for what the Bible says. It does have some good, every day common sense in it. Treat others the way you want to be treated, you reap what you sow, etc. etc.
But some people can be complete JERKS in the name of God. If there is a God, I don't believe that is what he would want. I believe he would be all loving, caring about each and every one of his creations. You know?

Yes! You're totally capturing my opinions here! It kinda makes me ashamed to be Christian, at times, with so many people ruining the name of the faith. Take homosexuality for example. People have violently protested against letting people of the same gender get married. Jesus wouldn't have wanted that... He would have been happy at seeing people who love each other enough to spend the rest of their lives together. He would have celebrated the love, He wouldn't have knit-picked and inflated one obscure belief as an excuse to judge people. But there are so many people that just don't want to think that way...
