Description Having failed to get Titania to give up the changeling boy to him, Oberon decides to enchant her with the juice of a purple flower which, when squeezed into the eyes whilst asleep, causes the recipient to dote madly on the first living creature that s/he sees upon waking. Oberon sends Puck off to fetch the flower and whilst he is waiting for Puck to return, a young man, Demetrius and young woman, Helena wander into the grove. Oberon makes himself invisible and spies on them, whereupon he learns that Helena is in love with Demetrius, but Demetrius is pursuing Hermia who has eloped with Lysander. Demetrius berates Helena for following him around 'like a puppy dog' and storms off with Helena in hot pursuit....

OBERON: Fare thee well, nymph: ere he do leave this grove,
Thou shalt fly him and he shall seek thy love.

Re-enter PUCK

Hast thou the flower there?

PUCK: Ay, there it is.

OBERON: I pray thee, give it me.
I know a bank where the wild thyme blows,
Where oxlips and the nodding violet grows,
Quite over-canopied with luscious woodbine,
With sweet musk-roses and with eglantine:
There sleeps Titania sometime of the night,
Lull'd in these flowers with dances and delight;
And there the snake throws her enamell'd skin,
Weed wide enough to wrap a fairy in:
And with the juice of this I'll streak her eyes,
And make her full of hateful fantasies.
Take thou some of it, and seek through this grove:
A sweet Athenian lady is in love
With a disdainful youth: anoint his eyes;
But do it when the next thing he espies
May be the lady: thou shalt know the man
By the Athenian garments he hath on.
Effect it with some care, that he may prove
More fond on her than she upon her love:
And look thou meet me ere the first cock crow.

PUCK: Fear not, my lord, your servant shall do so.

A Midsummer Night's Dream Act 2 Scene 1 by William Shakespeare

Oh dear, there are far too many people wandering the woods dressed in Athenian garments .... Demetrius, Helena, Lysander, Hermia, not to mention a group of 6 local workmen rehearsing a play they plan to perform at the wedding of the Duke.... and Puck can cause an awful lot of mischief with that little flower

Oh my goodnes, Oberon looks absolutely amazing! To be honest, I had to stare at him for a while to figure out that this was 3D art instead of real people posing for this. >>' The pose that he's in, you captured his commanding demeanor very nicely, not to mention his expression. A job very wel done.

Well spotted. I'm not sure many people noticed Helena chasing off after Demetrius, too busy oggling Oberon

One of my favorite plays by Shakespear! Though, to be honest, I've only read like three or four. . .

It's not what I've ever pictured when imagining Oberon, but I like it a lot.

Thank you. I was trying for a strong but rebellious image for him and his fae followers; there are influences of punk and biker in there somewhere Whereas Titania and her followers are more traditional. They appear softer on the outside but have a hard core; they all have weapons at the ready to defend Titania and the changeling

Well done. I took it for a photograph at first. I really like the subtle power that emanates from him. His accessories are an interesting mix of modern and historical, creating the feel that he's familiar with both worlds. The piercings on him and Puck work well. It's something that I didn't think would ever turn out well but they are tastefully done. The lighting in the piece adds all the more to it. The few bright highlights that are there don't detract from the piece in the slightest. Thank you for sharing!

Thanks for looking and for the fave

I'm really impressed with this piece! Normally I find imagery with elf-type characters and young characters fairly "meh" at best, but this has both... and it's captivating. Aside from Oberon being rather wonderful eye candy, I think my favourite thing about this piece is the lighting -- you've used a subdued, cool tone that's perfect for the setting but you see so many pictures where everything's really brightly lit, no matter what the scene. Very well done

The Reality Plug-In sets up shaders/parameters for and allows you to use the LUX render engine as opposed to the 3Delight built-in render engine. I like LUX because I find lighting scenes is so much easier and the results more 'real'.

Have a look in the gallery

Thanks for the heads up, will try it later I guess (with Daz, for me, the most difficult thing is the lights and shadows stuff)
I am still new with it so I know I learn day by day new tips and new stuff about daz, it's a great program because I can do whatever I want with it that's sooooo delightful

Won't say it's easy as the shader settings take a bit of getting used to. But you can get some really nice results with just one meshlight placed logically where your lighting source is. LUX works out all the shadows and bounce without having to try and 'fake' it and for me that is worth the longer render times.
You can pick up more tips and info in the Reality thread in the DAZ forums as well.

Thanks sooooo much for all the heads-ups, will probably have a look at it when I have more time
Because I really love the light rendering in your art ^^

Good luck if you decide to give it a go. I also recently came across this thread in the DAZ forums for a freebie plugin which exports from Daz to LUX. [link]

Don't know how it works precisely as haven't tried it myself, so don't know if it gives you an interface to adjust the shaders and set up lights like Reality does. I'm quite happy with Reality, but those using this other plugin seem to like it and if you just wanted to try LUX out as a render engine, then at least it's free

Thanks for all your tips and help, I can't use the free software as it's for windows 32 bit only and my windows 7 in 64 bit, but will try reality when I can
Lots of hugs and love

dylazuna In reply to dchan07 [2011-07-12 12:29:01 +0000 UTC]

Lucky you. Still stuck on 32bit myself which is why everything takes forever. It may not be apparent but the download files actually contain a 64 bit plug in as well as the 32 bit version, as I downloaded it yesterday just to see what it was like. It might be because I've gotten familiar with Reality but I didn't find it as easy to use.
