I felt like revisiting one of my original characters - Sîdhanar . While looking for inspiration for my next render I decided to look at what I have already done, and see what I’d like to further explore. This character stood out to me, and I wanted to see more of him. I had done extensive work on his eyes in his creation, however his first render Roaming the Wilderness didn't really offer much more than a glimpse of them, so I felt would be pleasing for me to get closer in with a portrait.
For a while now I have struggled with a prolonged case of creators block, and have found it very difficult to visualize things or rather ‘get the ideas out’, both for visual art and creative writing. So this was an exercise where I am hoping to reignite the fire from within me

Holy shit I just read the description (oogling over the art first and reading later is a bad habit of mine) and it says this is 3-D ART??? I thought it was a photograph! 0^0
This 'render' was done amazingly well, even the settle faint skin roughness (if I'm describing it correctly) texturizes him to the point it's believable and how the light reflects off of him, his outift and necklace appears to be so natural.
And not claiming to be a professional or anything but in my personal opinion, the only thing I could nit-pick on is something about the hairline and lips came off sort of 'plastic' in a way, which sort of tipped off my brain that he wasn't 100% real. Other than that artgasmic work!

Yeah I struggle allot with hair in 3D renders, is one of those things which can make or break a render XD I think I rendered this one several times for the hair, and I agree its not all there for me either, definitely a subject for ongoing improvements

What method do you use for the rim lighting? And I am "happy" to see that someone elses Iray renders take long as hell. I just got started with Iray two days ago and the render times are crazy for me because I render via processor - I have AMD cards. Really good ones and two of them but... wrong brand.
I am getting used to it at the moment but it is a lot of fun so far! I have a good feeling about where the skin develops to in my renders but highlights always get rather gariny in the end, also in the finished pictures. So this is what I am still learning, those little tricks for solving these little problems.
Really great picture. This is the quality I am aiming at!

Yes the render-times for me are lengthy, I think it has allot to do with how many features I push for in materials for things, I work very hard to get things to look exactly how I want (not unlike my experiences in 3Delight) haha That and the added time for Fiber hair when I use it. Noise is a big issue for me, I tend to use very high quality settings to overcome it, especially with larger resolution renders.
I render with graphics card only and a decent one at that, still slow cos I cant help myself XD Bugger about the AMD incompatibility, CPU is very slow to render with... but it does get there with patience
In the case of Sîdhanar here and in his Medium-Shot one, I used the sun/sky in the render settings. By coincidence, I had a while ago showed Ourak and Juli a behind the scenes look at the lighting, and I was actually about to remove from stash earlier, glad I didn't lol Give me a bit and I'll send you some info in the note 
I have been working on totally opposite Night render, had to reopen the old scenes to remind myself of everything lol

Funny enough the hand was almost a last minute addition, I went through a slew of test renders and kept thinking to myself something was seriously missing, the 2nd hand on the bow, was just so natural

Hmmm I wrote up a bit of his Bio on Roaming the Wilderness That I essentially had to trim down, as it got quite lengthy for Deviation description haha I may further expand on it in future, I do have to wonder If he finally finds happiness with someone special outside his personal duties, he does after all have a very strong heart, and that in itself I hope to show in further projects soon

I like this a lot. Love all the little personalized details - especially the necklaces! And I just love the intensity in his expression - great job. The eyes do indeed tell stories.

Creators block been so relentless lately, must be like a month or more now. Still I think some revisits to my prior projects is an opportune work around, I hesitated to do this one, but I am very glad I did now, there was allot of things I was able to try differently and improve on
