Description

A lengthy render I spent time on, did around 50 test renders and trialled various ideas to make the most of the set in combination with the actor within it. I spent allot of time with reflections and composition even the actors skin has reflections. The render initially was designed for use with Volume lighting, however towards the end despite all my efforts to optimize the render, its estimated render time peaked at 15-20hrs.
I tried fog instead which had no impact of additional time over the render without any fancy environmental effects, so I made the depth mask (posted Here ) to have additional adjustment later in Photoshop over the ambiance and atmosphere.
There are a total of 12 lights used within this scene.

This is a Daz Studio Render, post work in Photoshop. The character is my own and the figure is Genesis 2.

I am still searching for a good jungle for DAZ. It seems not all to be Stonmasons Forest, isn't it?

That one was mostly SM Return to the Enchanted forest, and parts of Enchanted Forest 1 itself. Theres no other plants/trees or rocks in there. Sometimes I will modify the surfaces of sets I use, but for the most part SM does a very good job with materials. I think it comes down to the atmosphere you create with the lighting, I do not use light presets, I create unique light set ups for all the renders I do tailored to the character and the environment. Adv Ambient for occlusion and Advanced lights for the speed up, starting with 3-point-light setup and growing from there (Key light, Rim/back light and Fill light + Occlusion)

wow! I think i should buy the advanced lights too. I have read they are faster than normal lights.
Experiments with light costs lot of time ... I often use the core lights 3.
You have a great smart / soft athmosphere
I have the light-set from Dreamlight for the enchanted forest but it needs ~ 1 - 1,5 hours to render i pic with it.

I usually skip by the male renders/models, but I have to stop long enough here to say I think this is a terrific render. Really good colorations and the subject is so well done. Really nice work here and definitely worth the time you took to create it.

And the outfit is making a great combo with the background .
It suits him in a word.
I think I especially like the close realistic look you gave him

Bombastic!!! Really great work. First i thought it would be M4, but he is Genesis.
How did you make the background? Looks a bit like from Stonemason, but better.
I am still searching a good jungle-background.
Your pic slooks very realistic. Did you use Octane?

SpyroRue In reply to Catweazle01 [2014-06-15 12:33:25 +0000 UTC]

Haha Many thanks, you just made my day Β

I rendered in 3Delight, As much as Id love top explore Octane lol The set is a mix of StoneMasons Enchanted forest 1 and 2, they're very well made sets and certainly high in my most favorite list haha! The figure I work with is G2M in this case. I generally use Genesis 1 for creatures these days, genesis 2 is a delight to work with and is my first preference for Humans and near humans.

Allot of what I render is heavily customized, Textures and shaders are something I have a soft spot for, its something really special when you can take a product and show it off in an entirely different way Character creation... Well sometimes I spend so much time creating them, I realize I haven't shown them off in renders!

Many Thanks, and cheers for the watch

i am very surpriced about that realism. I never thought that this could be possible in 3delight.

I make the most of what I have, as best to my skill at the time Β AoA particularly has brought allot of neat solutions to things previously difficult or that which doesn't exist in 3delight in DS. I think the missing caustics, absent IBL and lack of real world lighting/reflections is probably what annoys me most. These things are that make other render engines superior. But as time goes, thankfully things are improving Β

Cheers mate

I hear ya on all the time! It really came out wonderfully and it is those little details that make a picture complete. It is those that usually nobody really sees but when they are missing, you can clearly tell.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SpyroRue In reply to Mavrosh [2014-05-30 17:38:07 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much Mavrosh! And I agree, while its something that can take a fare bit of effort (and time LOL) when you achieve it those little things really do make a big difference to the end artwork and through my eyes I feel comfortable to call it a wrap. The whole depth masking concept I am sure to do again! I wish I learned of it sooner for my previous forest renders.

Cheers
