Description EDIT!!! in the painting figures tips, second method, i said fill the layer behind with solid white. that should have read 'fill in your figure or object on the layer behind your linework!" sorry for any confusion.

painting tutorial, for photoshop artists using graphics tablets.
did'nt have much time to do this but i keep getting asked. hope it helps a few people out there. it's a bit rough, and it assumes you know the very basics of using photoshop cs already. if any points need clarifying let me know.

Exactly what I was looking for. I'll work through it tomorrow and then try out the method for a my first digital painting... thing. I have a lot to learn and you've just helped. I'll link it to you when I'm done? Or just hide in some distant corner of DA and say that the method was learned from you.

Did it help at all? I tend to use so many different techniques these days, but they are mostly expansions on this basic airbrush method.
Yeah credits/links are always appreciated on here, the more people who get to see/enjoy your work the better I reckon.
Don't hide, you'll be right DA is a place to learn and share. Jump onto the DA forums and ya might get some requests and find people of a similar level to chat to.
Have fun

It did help, thank you. I'll be sure to link it to you AND hide, since there's no harm in it. And I suppose I won't die if I wander to a forum or two.

I will indeed have fun!

It's incredible how simple this is, and what it returns is something really pleasing to the eye

Though there is one part I need a little help on
In the last step, you added some glare to the eye
Is that just with a normal brush on bm_normal

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dypsomaniart In reply to ADDJenius [2007-03-04 02:40:04 +0000 UTC]

yep, just the normal soft airbrush at a smaller diameter (the smallest white line in the sample dots to the right of the last pic) and a bit higher opacity (70-90%).

Very interesting technique, something I am going to have to try. I have a commission that is a little more realism than I have been doing in a while, so it may come in handy to try out.

Thanks Jesse, I only have Paint Shop Pro 6 however I'm sure I can make the translation. Careful giving away all those trade secrets, you just may put yourself out of business. Then again based on the quality of your work you don't have much to worry about.
