Description Blaaaarg finally got around to finishing this.

Sooo, a while back, I started watching Tiger & Bunny, and it was awesome. And then I decided to draw my favorite superhero, Terry McGinnis, aka the future Batman, in a T&B style powersuit. Aaaand then I kind of ran with the idea and started messing around with an AU in which Terry was born in the T&B 'verse, and still wound up being "Batman", albeit a very different one, since it would exist completely independent of Bruce Wayne. I'd go on, but then I'd just take up pages and pages talking about this AU, so if you're really interested, you can check out the Sternbild Batman AU tag on my Tumblr.

Short version is, Terry's dad works for a weapons manufacturing company that builds powersuits for non-NEXT army purposes. He learns something he wasn't supposed to, is killed, and Terry steals one of the suits to seek revenge. In this 'verse, he is alone in his mission, with the exception of a few brushes with the Hero TV heroes. I wanted to try and portray some of that loneliness in this piece - while he would still be rather wisecracking, I also think he would struggle with what he's going through without Bruce there to help him through it. So he's gazing at his suit, kept behind glass, looking for comfort, while all it can do is stare back at him with that unsettling smile.

Gah, this piece was difficult to work on, because it is so DARK. I think this is the darkest palette I've ever worked in, but I love the way works, with very little lighting and those splashes of red. A lot of the design elements of the powersuit and under-armor where based around those bits of red. In the Batman Beyond DVDs, the creators of the show explained that they wanted the large red bat on Terry's chest to evoke a splash of blood. I've already explained how I worked that into the powersuit in my previous piece with this design, but I also tried to work it in for the under-armor. The under-armor is purposefully "pointier" in design then the T&B suits, to reflect Terry's more anti-hero status in this AU. But I also wanted to place the red bits in particular areas to evoke the sight of wounds, which is why they are slashes. The main areas I focused on where the neck (meant to look like a slashed throat), the center of the chest (the heart), the sides of the torso (cuts) and, while not visible here, there is also meant to be red around the wrists. The other areas, such as shoulders and hips, where meant to just tie the design together.

Also, quick note about the title (god this is getting long!): "A Good Son" is meant to refer both to how he is one of the Bat kids, and is upholding the mantle well in the original show, and how he's a "good son" for seeking vengeance for his father's murder in both 'verses.

Not sure how well I managed to pull off the reflected look of the suit here. :/ I wasn't sure how else to do it, other then include those white beams of reflected light. Any suggestions for if I try this again in the future would be awesome!

I wouldn't say I despise fic, it's just not my thing. I've been shown some very good fic, but I can just never get into it.

Because I don't write fic. And even if I did, my main fandom is BB, not T&B, so I don't have the confidence to get down the voices for anyone but Terry. I'm so glad you like this, though! And if you want to take a crack at writing a fic based on this, or asking someone else to, I'd be happy to share my notes on characterization :3

I didn't even know what Tiger and Bunny was until I was reading your posts about it, so I'm even less equiped then you are...

I wonder if the few BB writers (that are actually good) would be interested in taking a look...
