Description I've been wanting to do a redesign of the Batman Beyond batsuit for the longest time now, but was always sort of lacking in ideas. I knew I wanted it to draw on the original costume, but to have a more robotic feel to it. Oddly enough, watching the anime Tiger & Bunny got the creative juices flowing and inspired me to draw this armor suit.

I wanted to design something that I could see working in the T&B 'verse, while at the same time still clearly representing Batman Beyond. I drew a lot from Barnaby's costume for the silhouette, but used the design principals talked about on the recent BB DVD re-release.

One of the big things that the creators of BB talked about on the DVDs was the sort of sinister edge to the BB suit, and how it was a departure from the classic Batman costume. Terry's outfit is meant to be black from head to toe, with a splash of red across the torso, which is meant to emulate the look of a splash of blood. His face is completely covered, giving him an inhuman look. I didn't want to make this armor suit all black, since details would get lost, but I kept to black and gray to give it a much more toned-down look compared to the colorful neon suits of T&B. I liked the idea of the bat logo looking like a splash of blood, so I decided to use splatter brushes to make the general shape of it, further pushing the blood look. The helmet is actually more human-looking then the various helmets seen on T&B, but that was intentional - I wanted to make it look a bit more sinister by giving it a human face, but with the bright eyes and a smiling, fanged mouth, which would be all one would be able to see in a dark alley or at night.

Also dialed the ears up to eleven because... why not. I like the huge ears. I also have always loved the glider-wings of the costume, so I included them in the redesign. My idea would be that in this kind of armor, they don't retract - when not in use, they hang straight-down from his back, creating a stand-in for the traditional Batman cloak.

Bluuuuh I am such a nerd, I know way too much about Batman Beyond and put way too much thought into this XP Doesn't help that I'm now starting to envision an AU in which Terry was born in the T&B 'verse, but still went through the same fate of his dad being murdered, and so he steals another hero's suit and alters it, and begins fighting crime on his own as a grimdark anti-hero that causes a lot of headaches for Hero TV and their sponsors...
