Description wants to make a Vampire hunter D cosplay, so I said I would put up some pictures to help

Here is a fairly good picture of my costume with the background edited out...( red cell phone and all ack! ... [link] )

>w< I love that cape (the lining is made out of curtains )

the shoulder armor was a process so complicated that I can't even really remember How I did it ...it involved wire, cut plastic coke bottles, duct tape XD, Canvas gesso, Spackle, ...Plaster Gauze...aaaaahhhhhh!

There Must be easier ways to do it...o_o......I would suggest wire and an armature made of tinfoil covered with paper clay and sanded and then covered with plaster gauze or something...@_@...gah! ...there is no easy way... hahahha...

Hope this could help a little bit ^^

Very impressive, most people don't put that much effort in the Nouvea-esq style and detailing of D's outfits. You did a really worthy job!

Very nice cosplay, I'm looking for some ref on the design of D's wardrobe to make an illustration so this helps a lot too, thanks!

^^ thank you very much. It is hard to find a good reference of his outfit in a photo since it is so dark. I used an action figure as a reference for the costume

Good luck with the illustration. ^w^

Indeed, I got a bunch of pics so I hope I make out the design from them. And there's the design from the movie and Yoshitaka Amano's design so that can led to confusion also.

Thanks!

wow you're really pretty...
I love what you did with the gauntlets on your arms.
This is the manga design? you look like you just came out of it d'aw >_< so awesome. how did you make the shoulder armour? and is it comfortable to wear? xD you should make an Amano style D with all the accessories haha;;

^^ Thanks...

The design was just a last touch I put on them ...because they looked too plain just being black... I didn't get it from anywhere ^^ but I suppose I could say it was that ornate Amano style inspired hhehehe
^//^

o_o are you suuuuure you want to know what went into making the shoulder armor....even I don't remember everything.... they started out as wire frames...and I put coke bottle 2 liter tops on them (back before they made them all cone shaped and not round hahaha ) stuck that together with duct tape...made the spikes out of the same kind of plastic melted with a hair dryer...and covered everything with spackle carved it..and layers and layers of canvass gesso... and lots and LOOOOOTS of sanding (oops... ahhaha sorry if you eyes fell out ... )

The costume is reasonably comfortable to wear...the top...is ...a little tight...up top ...sigh...I made it with the idea that I would be bound flats so it is like getting into a straight jacket and when I have it all zipped up...breathing is a distant dream...ahhahah well...it really isn't that bad...and I am used to not being able to breath in costumes at least it is more flexible than the armor of my Sesshoumaru costume [link] ...(that I will be wearing again this year hahah) I* loooooooooove the cape ^w^

but my Favorite thing about the D costume is that I don't have to wear a wig ^^ I can just use my own hair...(which being as long as it is...makes wearing wigs ...tricky...hahah )

hmmm...accessories...XD That would be interesting. I wore the costume with a scarf one winter to a convention...that we couldn't get into gah!.. [link]

omggg O_O that's alot of work for the shoulder piece...wowww.

haha I think wearing a tight outfit wouldn't too bad if it proved rewarding results...your outfit is too cool not to wear, so yeah!
wow that's your real hair?! youhave very long hair. looks just like D's~
I can imagine having that much hair would be very hard to wear a wig haha I have short hair...well, it's growing out a bit (my fringe is way too long, I need a haircut...) even I find it difficult just to put on a short wig ugh...
and SPAZ I saw the air vent pic of you when I was googling for VHD pics months ago (due to lack of clear refs on him xD) omg that cosplayer was you! that shot was awesome btw....onkjsfhkjdshfj you make a perfect D, arghh omg, I love you.

^^ yep...my real hair..and hairstyle ...since high school (which was a while ago ahhaha I'm older than I look X'D )... I love it long...but everyone I know is always after me to cut it...which makes me want to leave it long even more (XD I'm stubborn ahahha)

XD ahah this one? [link] That is the most viewed of any of my pictures I'm glad you like it, I love that air vent XD it makes for great cosplay shots hahah..^_^...and thanks >///<...

E1L0n3wy In reply to DraconicArmagon [2009-05-16 06:55:18 +0000 UTC]

XD heheh

^^ thank you

It took...most of a summer and part of the beginning of a school semester (but I wasn't just making it...I was also making another costume too [I made a Meier Link costume for a friend...] )

I'd say...mmm...maybe 2 or 3 months...not straight ...hmm
8D no idea actually

the shoulder armor was probably the most difficult part

the cape is my favorite part >w<
and I made everything except for the pants and the shoes. ^^

It probably could have been a bit more detailed...but I am quite happy with it as it is

That is beautiful...
How did you do the bracers?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

E1L0n3wy In reply to silverxtippedxrose [2009-04-10 06:05:02 +0000 UTC]

^^ Thank you,

to make the bracers, I made a frame out of wire...and covered it with plastic mesh (the kind you can get at a craft store or walmart, usually used for latch hook or whatever ) I use that stuff for a lot of things, it is cheap versatile and very easy to work with. (I used it for my hat.)

once you have the frame covered by stitching the mesh to the wires, cover that with fabric (maybe with something under it to smooth out the rough spots...duct tape?...

I might actually have some old drawings that I worked from somewhere...

basically it is just building something around your arm that is the right shape, and then covering it with something to make it look right. (I used giant snaps as fasteners)...

oh, another very useful material that I work with a lot is really cheap floor mats from a dollar store (just like a tiny rug but thin enough to cut up...it makes a great base for any part of a costume that needs to be flexible but still hold it's shape. and you can sew through it with a quilting needle.

ramble ramble

Hey, even bad ass half-vamp vampire hunters need a cell phone every now and then . Although considering D's lifestyle I'd think a "ruggedized" one would be preferable.

XD the Charms don't help much either
