Description This was for a portfolio submitted to the college I was going to

Media: Acrylic paint, drawing paper, glue

Dimensions: 18" wide x 24" high

This self-portrait collage uses a wolf figurine as the base imagery. The wolf is symbolic to loyalty and a protective instinct; it is an animal that runs with a pack, yet it can be a loner. The wolf is gentle with its pack mates, but fiercely strong. I use the wolf to symbolize what others have said about me—that I look in from the outside and I am loyal, strong, kind, and gentle. The fur is revealed through a touch of dimensionality. The colors I used provide a complementary feeling and meaning. The red and orange tones convey passion, warmth, and fire, which are both a necessary and a fearsome element. The blues and cooler tones convey the opposite senses of water and ice, both of which also are life-giving and harsh elements. When balanced, these elements suggest my own positive and negative traits. I try to find such balance in my own life.
