Description This work took FOREVER. It's ALL in colored pencil and drawn on SIX AND A HALF FEET LONG butcher paper. Taking the picture and tweeking the colors were not fun. I want to put it on my wall but I don't have room. :< The text on the leaves and moon (written by me):

The Sun God had always been merciless. Sitting on his throne, he coolly looked down upon the skeletons and incinerated corpses scattered below him. Their cacophonous speech was always slurred with pain and agony. With their desperately reaching fingers, they clamored around the loose drapery that befitted their lord. They were nothing but bugs, filthy both in their appearances and mannerisms. He let them burn. The Sun God was enveloped in a majesty and brilliance matched by no one. Could anyone else wield such great power as he? Never. And yet, she had always looked upon him with scorn. The Nereid who thrived upon the lush waters of the sea sat at ocean’s bottom pondering the fate of the Sun God. In her mind, he was raw, harsh, and unruly. The beauty of the moon reflected in her deep and knowing eyes. Her movement emanated such elegance that complimented to her unwavering reserve. She not only moved with a graceful fluidity, but ruled with a poise that the Fire Keeper knew not about. It was her cold compassion that led her to accost the Sun God. The Water Keeper knew nothing of what was to come. Perhaps a war was to greet her. It was only natural, for they were both so different. How could fire come to understand water? But to her astonishment, her grave premonitions did not come to be. Neither he nor she knew where the seeds of admiration were planted, but it soon grew into compassion, then to adoration. The unlikely lovers encircled each other and in their bliss began to dance. As they laced their hands together, the glow of the Sun God’s light reflected sharply on the Nereid’s face. And with their mutual joy, came the emergence of a new life. The shell cracked as trees and other vegetation escaped their prison to reach for the heavens. Their leaves basked in the warm rays of the sun while the roots dipped their delicate feet into the glistening water. One by one, flowers opened up their pretty faces to congratulate their happy union. From above, a winking star slipped down to earth. In the guise of a single butterfly, it fluttered excitedly, and soon rested upon a welcoming daisy to admire the beauty of the world.

uhhh holy crap. i wish i could see this in real life. YOU SHOULD PASTE IT ON YOUR CEILING. though really it deserves to be showcased somewhere where more people can see. what was this for, btw? i can't imagine that you spent so much time and effort on such a huge project just for personal fulfillment...?

there are many many things i like about this piece, but i think my favorite atm is the coloring on the sun god... the texture feels metallic/chiseled-sculpture-like to me, and i'm amazed that you can do that with all colored pencils.. it looks more like oil pastels at some places. and the colors.. *_* the blend of colors is beautiful.

The biggest painting I've done was about 3x 2.5 feet. I almost gave up on it. XD I can't even imagine working on a piece of paper that big.

If I didn't like the picture it probably would have been torture for me too. : )

A quirk about working extra large: While working, I lied down on it a lot. In fact, I almost fell asleep when the room was really warm. XD

I sometimes do that even when working on a small painting. XD Of course, most of the time i paint between 2 and 4 AM.

Half-Blood-King [2009-01-20 05:32:39 +0000 UTC]

Dude, this is bloody fantastic! The only thing I must say is that some of the anatomy is a bit off, the arm looks a bit to short and where there should be genitalia there's none. But both could be explained by form/want and foreshortening. Either way even with or out that, it's brilliant.

Frankly because of the flaws it's better, it looks like it was made by a person's hand, not by a divine one.

Ebae In reply to Half-Blood-King [2009-01-20 06:40:28 +0000 UTC]

The weird swooping bottom for the guy was intentional. While he was in the drafting stages, he started out as a streak of fire but later morphed into what you see now.

As for the arms... URG. I did notice how short/small/demented they are. The problem was that since the picture was so big, I never got a bird's eye view of the piece and found out when I stood the picture up AFTER I colored it in. *epic fail*

Next time I will be more careful. >: D Thanks for your comment/fav too!
