Description
The Greenback newt
aquam jumentum viridia (green back water beast)
{Bio written by Pixieblossom}
The green backed newt is a decedent of the Algerian ribbed newt that lived in lakes. They are native to Frijol Isle in its two small lakes. Being 90cm long there large enough to take down a pygmy goat, which are there main prey. But there diet also consist of large chameleons, many types of insects and small lizards. They have evolved a green knobbly back, resembling the large swaths of duckweed that cover parts of the lakes, and the rest of there body is a darker colour. There body shape is similar to that of a crocodile, a longer snout and gripping teeth. How they hunt is that they will sit floating near the waters edge, perfectly camouflaged. When something comes to drink, then they strike. They are surprisingly non aggressive, not caring if another one of them ventures onto there turf. When its mating season though, this changes entirely. The Females will go wandering looking for a male, and as soon as one female reaches a males turf, they allow no other males to come near. If a fight between males does occur, its a show of intimidation. If the defending male backs down, then the challenger gets the females. The females lay 500 eggs and protect them until they hatch
