Description The sunburst Dragonfly is part of a genus of tiny dragonfly found across Adlesia along any waterway of Montejoja, Frijol Isle, and ueva Ibiza. Painted Dragonflies will feed on small insects, for this species it is mainly aphids across the southern stretch of Montejoja in the semi-humid to humid region. Standing water is preferred for territory, which they defend strongly. These are oftentimes in warm ephemeral puddles where their larvae must develop quickly. Males are quick to fight each other for resources, often chasing one another around (but hardly ever actually fighting). Once he has claimed his space, he will await a visiting female. Once he has her attention, he will flit around in the air, flashing his vivid colors. Each species has their own unique sky dance. Sunbursts will emphasize the iridescent green spot on their tail. Once she accepts, they will fly over the water to lay eggs. The resulting nymphs usually dont have any prey in their puddles, and so will cannibalize one another until only a few survivors are left, in a matter of days crawling out to take their adult forms. Because of this unique strategy, they can be found year round, as adults may live only a few weeks at a time. Their numbers go up during the summer and recede somewhat in the winter, as those nymphs born in the cooler, wetter season take slightly longer to develop.
