Tilikum landing a breach he did on his own whim during Dine With Shamu; I liked how the water looked! He was actually asked for a spin swim but decided to do a low breach instead. I was perfectly okay with his decision!Please refrain from commenting about animal captivity or other issues unrelated to the photo.

Whoa, Tilikum is a big, BIG orca! Part of the book I am writing about orcas talks about him, especially because he's the largest and most successful captive sire. I know he's been involved in three fatalities with people, but I'm sure he's very gentle. Too bad he's too large for his trainers to swim with him.

Yeah he is! To be fair to Tilikum despite his past, he was never actually trained to swim with humans and thus didn't know how gentle he needs to be or how to act with a trainer in the water. When you swim with such a large animal you have to gradually work towards it and eventually get to the point where they are completely used to having people in the water with them (Tilikum was not since they didn't swim with him at all) and are used to pushing them around the pool, giving them rides, etc. But from what I've heard, he is not aggressive: mostly easygoing and somewhat stubborn.

Definitely not! I wonder why he chose to do this breach instead of the spin swim. Maybe he had an itch that could be relieved with a nice, low breach
