Description Something I worked on for aggggeeesss in the past few months. The photo came out terribly, and I can't tell you how much I abused Photoshop trying to get it to look somewhat like the original. (Please, I don't care what anyone says, I'll take scanning in pieces over photos anyday.) The colors are still pretty far off from the original, which I just... can't seem to fix.

This file looks... so... terrible. If I can somehow create a better version of it, but for now this is all I have. Augghhh, so much of the detail just got completely lost when I altered the colors and resized it. Sigh.

Anyway. Enough complaining. Time for the explanation, which is: none. That's right, this picture means absolutely nothing to me. I thought it would look neat, so I painted it. That's actually me there, not because I wanted to do a self-portrait, but instead because I knew I wouldn't get pissed off at myself if it didn't come out looking exactly like me. No, I definitely don't look glamorous right there, but I almost wanted to put myself in a pose where I didn't look like I was completely trying to sell my assests or something. Whatever unknown assets those may be.

Okay, onto the materials list, which we all know is the best part:
Figure done in watercolor
patterns on shirt/dress done in color Winsor and Newton ink
Greenish background done in watercolor
Yarrow in watercolor
Skeleton in gesso and watercolor
Red sun in acrylic and watercolor
Strings done in red and gold acrylic.

Verrrryy verrry little pencil sketching. Literally, I only drew 5 wispy lines for the yarrow and figure, each.

The more I look at this painting the more unhappy I am with it. Well, whatever. Just try harder and get better.
Oh, and it was something like... 12-13"x12-13"?

Uggghhhhh.

Finals prevented my from seeing this sooner.

All I can say is holy shit, this is beautiful. I hope now that some time has passed since you originally painted this, you see that too.

I like the fact that I can tell that it's you, but there's still something off. It's... surreal.

I like this, I feel a little off balance looking at it, but I think you are a master with watercolor to be sure. And also I can tell that the person is you, I think the mouth is a little low on the face, but it's really good. When I did my self portrait for art, the mouth was the only thing I did wrong, and it made the whole thing not look like me. it pissed me off to no end.
anyway, very nice job, I'm glad you've loaded something, I always look forward to seeing your art
you went to the musical right?

Yes, I went to the musical! It was mucho fun!

Think the thing with the mouth... is well... you see, I basically have no upper lip. Come look at it some day. It's not there. I think that's what makes my mouth look farther down, because people expect to see some big plump upper lip, but... no. But maybe I really did just mess it up. Who knows!

And thanks!

Honestly, I love it. You may dislike it, but I love it. In fact, I think it's one of your best. Wonderful work. This will be my 126th favourite ever.

I like the figure, the hair looks really soft. the skin tones are really awesome too, especially on the face. I guess I would have gone for a little more contrast in shadows on the skeleton, but I like how you used the colors.

Thanks! I totally... messed up with some of gesso. I have a large tendency to overwork things, and I ended up making the skeleton too light and not letting enough of the background show through. I think that probably would have helped a little bit with what you were talking about.

Or maybe it's just that I hate acrylic like none other and was obstinate against using it to darken those shadows.

Holy shit holy shit holy shit holy shit holy shit holy shit holy shit holy shit where do I even start? Dear god, m'lady. You look so cool in this painting. It doesn't EXACTLY look like you, as in you look a little strange, but that's why I like it so much! You look really really cool! It's NOTHING like I imagined it would be and it's a total surprise! Oh my. I really like it man. Congrats. You can truly paint.

I think this looks fantastic. It really grabbed my eyes from the start. Most of the colors are cool, so your figure is this pool of warmth that really draws the eye to the right. Some of the warmth is them mimicked in the flower stems, so the path flows upward along the stalks, back down along the skeleton, and then is caught in the red and yellow lines to bring the eye up to the red sun in the corner. Beautiful flow and movement. You may not be happy with it, but I think it looks amazing!

lol I know what you mean about taking photos of paintings. It's such a bitch thing to do. Pain in the ass is what it is.

But, this is a really beautiful piece, even if it does mean nothing to you. I think you should value it more because it's a very nice painting and you should be proud of it. It's really amazing.

You really are hard on yourself, though as the artist you are your biggest critic. The figure is wonderfully done, I think it looks great
