I've always loved Wayne Barlowe's scientific anatomical studies he does of fantasy/scifi creatures. After reading Lovecraft's "Shadow out of Time" again, I decided to draw out the physiology of a "Flying Polyp", one of the more mysterious and crazy races in the Lovecraft universe.They don't have any loyalty to any outer gods and don't seem to have any purpose in coming to earth other than to eat things, control wind, and build giant basalt towers. The flying polyps intrigued me as to what might make the other races fear them so much, besides being insane, nigh indestructible, and the aforementioned ability to control wind.
Did I mention they can float and turn invisible too? God, that book is weird!

I love this Polyp! What you've come up with is very observant of Lovecraft's description... I especially like that you've shown it both in the air and on ground.

Yeah... conventional interpretation has produced a lot of cool art, but it's a fun challenge to try & interpret Lovecraft's otherworldly descriptions. Good job! I'll be keeping an eye on your gallery.

Yep, able to pass through solid objects. Yithians had to make some kind of electro-energy weapon to fight them I think
