Description Here's somes sketches. This is what most of my drawings start off as and from there I add details. I try to do them like old Marvel artists (Gil Kane being the coolest) but I'm kinda too lazy to add the geometry stuff. Enjoy!

Wow! This is a great idea! You capture movement, gravity, and dynamism so well! Even in a tiny sketch you got foreshortening! Looks professional! I did these all the time in school but they always are hard for me to do. I think I lack patience. When I start doing this sorta thing I do all circles (probably why they're so buff) and I can never draw small, always end up taking up the whole paper with one person or have to add extra paper especially when I add things like wings, tails, horns, etc. I'll have to use tips like this to help me improve Keep on with it, it's great stuff!

The funny thing is I HAAAATED doing these when I started trying to steadily improve my art. The took me forever to get even close to right and I'd have to end up erasing them anyway to draw the actual person. But now I can't do a drawing without doing these little guys first to get the right pose! They're so helpfull and I just love seeing how the artists I love do them.
Try em' out when I get a chance!

AWESOME!! This is totally what I need to start drawing, these little pose sketches. You really have an amazing eyes for motion and dynamic poses; I'm impressed there's even some perspective and foreshortening happening. I applaud you, sir, for not only your talent but your dedication as well. You're definitely gonna be drawing for Marvel someday soon.

You sure know how to make a guy blush! Thank You, boss! Some of them came out better than my usual sketches, so I thought I might as well share it to show the peeps how I start. I love seeing the professional artists do it, so hey, why not give it a go!

You're welcome. Really, though, it's my pleasure. Your stuff is such a big inspiration, and someday I hope to master anatomy and those kick-ass comic poses as well as you. Oh, yeah, share away. I enjoy drafts and sketches because it really does help to see how other artists work, their thought processes. It helps to realize the struggle to create those finalized, awesome artworks, and I glean a little bit of new know-how from it. It's like watching someone create with building blocks; you notice how they lay the ground work, where each piece goes, and you learn to do the same. Once you have an art foundation, you can get creative and play with style.

So yeah, thank you!

Awesome! That means so much to me! If you get around to trying them out for yourself, I for one would love to see what you come up with.

hey whatevre works best for you i'd say roll with it. i try doing body sketches myself as a way of warmup before starting. simplistic in nature overall. its just to get a feel of shape and volume rather than actual detail. once i get a base look i like, i kinda roll with it. or in some cases i jsut draw out the scene as best my mind will allow me to. i love the fact your going beyond that and experimenting with angles aswell as the figure as a whole. you can only get better from it.

Completely agreed! I actually used to hate doing preliminary dummy sketches because they sort of slow down the process and lead me to forget/change to image I had in my mind. But they're really really helpful for the tricky angles and stuff I try to experiment with. Hopefully, some day I can pull them of as well as the old Spider-Man artists did..
Thanks for the comment!

yea, those guys were legends. i would say though, don't get too caught up in what he did but use it as fuel of sorts. what it comes down to is basic shapes and muscle memorization. kinda like a smell may trigger a memory of days long pasted. keep practicing daily and build on what you already know. you'll hit that peak eventually, just don't expect everything at once or overwhelm yourself with living up to him. just do you, and the rest will come in due time

Thanks man! I only use other artists' works as a tool to keep my progress in perspective, so you don't need to worry about me getting caught up in their styles. I intend to keep on doing my own thing! I'm not a fan of using references but I'm definitely gonna have to if I want to work on my anatomy. So I'll definitely be practicing til I run out of paper!

yea yea. to be honest refrencing is a great way to boots your work on many levels. and not just anatomy, but with clothing, backgrounds and spacing within the scene to better pull readers eyes in the direction you want without being too obvious about it. its pretty neat whats out there and you can learn alot from various source material. i like to mix in various aspects from what i've seen and learned in class. but i know theres some great tutorials here on DA aswell as youtube n tumblr.

but yea, defianly start practicing cause i swear your eyes will be open to alot of aspects thats always been there but never really payed much attention to. especialy if you like detail like i do. though i will admit i get lazy at times or try too much to make things exatly as the refrence. but its all about getting used to youself, your limits and going beyond that

As soon as I get a day off, I'll be starting on some clothing studies. Its one of my biggest problems with my art and I really need to get better at it. Detail is the key to good clothing and I'll be sure to take my time with those refs!
