Description I've had the title in my head for a while now and wanted to do something about it. At first I pictured it would be something dark, "sinful-temptress"-like, but it didn't turn out very well. So I decided to go for a bit warmer colors, something that would convey innocence and sensuality at once. Edit for the sake of a friend irl: "His Downfall" can be interpreted several ways. The most obvious is, a woman is a man's weakness, and while I worked on this I thought about all the Greek myths and tragedies about love. Seen thus, the woman is the temptress who ruins the man. She can also be viewed as an innocent, and the "his downfall" is the man who can't resist and ruins her.

Don't know how well I pulled it off. There are a few things I'm not happy with, but unless you point them out I'm just gonna ignore them for now...

Note: She does not allow people to use only parts of her models. "You may not chop off my models head to use only the dress or body. I have a real problem with that. If you dont like the face or something just DONT USE the stock." I didn't read her rules thoroughly before making this and I apologize deeply for breaking this one. She was kind enough to make an exception for this piece and not chop my head off - thank you so much

Phew. Thank you all for providing such excellent resources

There, he said it for me.
[18:32:35] Give her my greatest appreciation, she does beautiful work.

She looks a bit as though she is "floating" however.

So glad to hear that... he was a part of the SOTW on Sals a long, long time ago that inspired me to get started with graphics.

Hmm... yeah, you're right - one of the things I didn't like was that I wasn't sure whether I'd blended her enough. Guess I'll have to work a bit more on the shadows and a couple of other things.

Thanks for the CC

The work is amazing, which I have come to expect from seeing the rest of your work, but the explanation makes it even better. I like how you took the time to think back to Greek mythology and tried to find personal meaning in your work. That's the mark of a true artist.

That's beautiful. For me, it evokes a little bit of Phedre from the Kushiel's Legacy trilogy by Jacqueline Carey. It's sensual and yet innocent, and I love the way you layered the images.

Oh my god You've read the Kushiel books??

Believe it or not, while I was working on the low waist on the dress, I was thinking of the cover of the second book, that displays the rose tattoo so beautifully. If it reminds you of it, I'll take that as a huge compliment

Thank you ^^

Yep, I'm a fan of Jacqueline Carey - I haven't read the latest one though. *embarrassed* I love the Kushiel books and the Sundering ones as well.

And I'll say that you definitely achieved the effect you were looking for. When I saw that picture, my mind went: "Oh my God... it's Phedre!"

Eil In reply to Moivra [2007-01-04 02:49:10 +0000 UTC]

Sundering? Are those by Carey too? I don't think I've even heard of them... I'm kinda isolated from civilisation here in Norway I bought the whole Kushiel Trilogy when they came out - they're amazing, especially for a debutant. I don't think she's that known yet...? At least I was baffled to see someone draw the connection.

Moivra In reply to Eil [2007-01-04 05:19:11 +0000 UTC]

The Sundering duology - the first book is Banewreaker, and the second Godslayer. Lots of people say that it's a rip-off of Lord of the Rings, but I don't think so - the story's largely told from the "bad guys' " point of view. I don't mind admitting that I was half in love with the bad guys at the end, and I wanted the good ones to just DIE. And as for making a connection... fans of Jacqueline Carey think the same way.

And no, she isn't an international best-seller, as far as I know, but I still adore her works.

If you had read my stock rules you would have seen I dont allow for use of only the skirt of my deviations. However I liked this image so much I'm making an exeption.

Eil In reply to Kittyd-Stock [2007-01-02 16:34:07 +0000 UTC]

I'm truly deeply sorry I only read the rules that were in the artists comment and not the ones in the journal - my most sincere apologies *grovels*. I really intended no offence and the reason I changed the model was because I wanted her to face the other way as I normally don't show faces in my manips.

Thank you for making an exception - I'll edit my first comment so others don't make the same mistake.

Thats absolutely beautiful Cant really put my finger on anything.. maybe the outline of the model, but it actually looks better that way
Antique-ish style very hard to do in my opinion, but you've presented it very nicely
I really dont know what else to say, this left me speachless [ in a good way ]

Eil In reply to GreenNeptune [2007-01-03 13:09:07 +0000 UTC]

You think so? It got on my nerves because I couldn't make her blend with the surroundings as much as I liked without her skin going all grungy and weird - as it is now, she's all smooth :\

Thanks for the comment This particular technique isn't too hard - just slap on textures and stocks that you set on Soft Light or Overlay, and then you erase the parts that don't look good
