Moves
Sucker Punch
Move Description: This move enables the user to attack first. This move fails if the target is not readying an attack.
An over the top, damage dealing punch that appears as a vague purple smog around her fist. While power is distributed fairly evenly among her moves, Sucker Punch packs a smidgen more power, driving home a strong fist. This ability can hold strong repercussions due to energy reverb, from potentially spraining her wrist, to breaking her arm if used too roughly or in excess. The move was learned fairly quickly in her teen years, and is used most often.
Sludge Bomb
Move Description: The user attacks by hurling filthy sludge at the foe. It may also poison the target.
Small, damage inducing bombs that carry a small chance of poisoning a target. This move was taught to her from an old, troublemaking childhood friend who had honed his own use of the skill to torment and prank his unwilling victims. While practical, the purple blasts of poison are incredibly noticeable, and stealthily using this move is near impossible. Using the bombs in excess makes her nauseous, and it tends to be an attack used to distract and escape.
Foul Play
Move Description: The user turns the target's power against it. The higher the target's Attack stat, the greater the move's power.
A move that is calculated by the target's Attack stat. Taught to her by her mother, the lesson the Zoroark intended for Donovan to learn was meant to help protect her against potential threat, and the young Skuntank promised to only use it in self defense. These days, that promise is often twisted to her favor.
Acid Spray
Move Description: The user spits fluid that works to melt the target. This harshly lowers the target's Sp. Def stat.
While the effect of this move varies from 'mon to 'mon, it generally activates the same way: in a harsh, toxic stream of purple spit. Despite their Skunky heritage, this move activates through their mouth, and works well both as a ranged attack and in close combat. When the move manages to hit, it typically comes across as a burning sensation, and can lead to minor chemical burns, as well as having the potential to lower SPD stat. Unfortunately, due to learning this move at a rapid, unexpected rate, it comes with it's fair share of side effects and difficulties. As this move was learned, their body began to produce the volatile acid in their saliva. Nausea, vomiting, a bitter, bile taste and damaged inner cheeks are all common side effects of using Acid Spray.
Personality
If you're looking for an aloof, mysterious Pokemon of few words, Donovan isn't the Skuntank to go to. With a defiant and spunky attitude, it would be fair to say that she would be the last Pokemon to consider; her bold, exuberant personality is wildly apparent through her obnoxious nature. While she holds the ability to rise to a leadership role when necessary, she prefers to stay on the sidelines, allowing others to take on the hero role while enjoying the view from the sidelines. Without a competitive nature toward allies, she finds it easy to befriend those who share both mutual and differing values despite holding strong opinions herself. Lacking a strong sense of self pride, Donovan prefers modesty over boasting, and values truthful companionship with all forms of Pokemon. Comparatively, a good laugh is one of life's finest virtues to Donovan, and she strives to enjoy her time, whether it be recreational or performing personal hobbies.
The law, while seemingly important, is not something Donovan holds in high regard, preferring a life of risk and pleasure to the life of a law abiding citizen. This punk attitude dons a lack of self discipline, allowing for an assertive outlook on life, her feisty attitude often making way for cunning acts without a fear of consequence. This dauntlessness is paired with brutal honesty, and rarely does Donovan resort to tactics such as blatantly lying. Overall, she prefers to achieve her own goals without outside interference, and generally sways neither optimist or pessimist.
Though Donovan has a tendency to be rowdy and tactless, she is usually quite lax and easy going, with a charismatic humor about her that makes her appear self confident and, arguably, a riot to be around. Her extroverted nature easily combats those who are reluctant to speak, and her humble attitude combats her rough nature. All things aside, she's not one to be easily swayed and doesn't depreciate herself or others, seeing it as a waste of time and energy.
Likes: Donovan holds a preference toward like-minded individuals, but has the potential to thrive under different personalities as well. Her interests include classic rock, grunge, piercings, and generally the alternative lifestyle. While she currently attends a college part time for a degree in psychology, she has an interest in the arts as well. She's a self taught artist, particularly specializing in graffiti and representational junk art. She's part of the anti consumerism movement, though it is not something she discusses passionately, but moreso as a side hobby. Besides visual art, she also has an interest in music, (particularly synth), and enjoys attending music festivals. She enjoys spoken poetry and on occasion writes her own, though it is something she takes personally and wouldn't share lightly. Most of her time is spent outside the house, watching television, surfing the internet, or hanging in groups of friends. Her favorite type of food is spicy, and she enjoys cooking stir fry.
She's firmly pro-moves, and has been using them since she was a tyke.
Dislikes: Hate is a strong word to Donovan when used in a genuine sense. She dislikes narks and close-minded individuals, and finds those who want to ban moves to be ridiculous. She's open to ridicule, but gets agitated when it falls into an excessive category. She dislikes bitter foods, and doesn't have a sweet tooth.
Notes:
Has Germanic Heritage, with a slight accent.
Consciously keeps her tail from curling over her head, while her body shape takes after her Zoroark parent.
Loves classic rock, but can't play an instrument or sing for the life of her.
Responsible for a few choice spray paint vandalisms throughout Lumiose.
Mullet.
History
Before Birth:
Love. It might be cheesy to start an origin story on the topic of love, and truly, at the very beginning, it quite possibly would have been something less. Sure, to some it might seem odd for romance to bloom while paying off a ticket for a misdemeanor and chatting up the secretary, but for Karla Beufort and Zoe Baasch, it seemed to be fate.
Zoe Baasch was a 24-year-old secretary at Opeloid City law firm. She was assigned male at birth, and feeling it necessary for her happiness, eventually chose to transition later in life. Born an only child to a Zoroark and a Mienshao and growing up in the Unova region (Accumula to be exact), it was easy to say she had always felt a disconnect with moves. Her father worked as law enforcement, and her mother took an interest in teaching self-defense to both adults and minors. Her mother and father often considered moves to be a double-edged sword. On one hand, they allowed weaker Pokemon to defend themselves, and on the other, allowed criminals to glorify their moves and harm others for personal gain. These ideals stuck with her despite the ban, and her parents taught her how to protect herself, with the promise that they would only be used for defense.
It remained her belief, and her known moves were Protect, Foul Play, and Punishment, alongside having the ability of Illusion. She declines having ever used these moves, and refuses to be pressed on the matter. She began her transition at the age of 18, and moved to Opelucid City at the age of 19 to pursue a law oriented career. She owns a small apartment on the south side of town, and considers her job to be her life.
In turn, Karla Beufort was a 28-year-old technician from Kiloude City. She often travelled to where the work was, which worked well for the young Skuntank who had an interest in travelling and sightseeing. As the fifth child to a deadbeat Skuntank and Krookodile, Karla was raised in poverty from a young age, and took up work quickly. Despite facing the harsh end of her parent’s moves, Karla always deemed them as an important necessity for survival. She believes the use of moves is source for key development, and believes that she would not be as successful as she is today if not for the use of moves.
As such, she tended to use her moves offensively, with her known moves being Scary Face, Flamethrower, and Explosion, with the ability of Keen Eye. When asked, she is honest and outright about how, why, and when she has used these moves. Despite being raised in Kiloude, she has travelled to most locations in Kalos, and had only recently begun to branch toward the Unova region when she met Zoe. Having never felt an attachment to a particular city or town, she agreed to move in with Zoe in Opelucid after two years of their relationship, and the two began their life together.
Their relationship remained stagnant for some time. They often entertained the idea of potentially having kids, and together, would consider the various options. While it was a difficult decision, after seven years of living together, Zoe and Karla conceived their own child, and after nine months Karla gave birth to a relatively healthy child, whom the two named Donovan. It was truly a convenient city of rapid change, showing no traces of the past, and welcoming the future. Even so, progressive area full of open minded individuals and those who sought to further evolve society seemed to dwell in the beautiful city.
Infancy:
It was quickly noticeable that the Stunky infant would be a handful for the two. She would often go from crying, to fits of anger, her meltdowns lasting what felt like hours on end before she finally would wear herself out. Her screeches left her parents feeling weak, and the child’s scratches often deterred the two parents from tending to her, preferring to let their child calm down on her own. As such, her outbursts failed to be reprimanded, and as she grew older, her habits only seemed to get worse. While this was fine for Karla, who saw Donovan’s behavior as a reflection of her own household as a child, Zoe felt deeply troubled by it. Unfortunately, she had little understanding of how to fix the situation, and only hoped it would be solved as the Stunky grew older with time.
Toddler / Adolescence:
With the lack of parental involvement, Donovan felt isolated and disconnected from her family. Out of fear, her parents often left her away from other children, unable to afford the possibility of Donovan getting in a fight with another kid. While it allowed the tyke to reflect on her actions, it caused her difficulty in social interactions, and her perceived unfairness toward her only furthered her anger.
It was around the age of five where the two parents realized Donovan’s behavior seemed fully out of their control. The Stunky didn’t seem to understand her own strength, nor did she seem to comprehend nor care the consequences of her actions. With the move ban firmly implemented in the Unova region, this deeply worried the Zoroark and Skuntank. Realizing that neither of them specialized in the help their daughter needed, they reached out to those who could provide reassurance and growth. Together, Zoe and Karla placed Donovan in a learning environment full of other kids like her, and equally prone to outbursts.
In particular, an anger management class for toddlers and youth. West Opelucid’s Reformative Management Facility, otherwise known as WORMf. It was during this time that the toddler was diagnosed with a type of anger disorder, which stemmed from both genetics and circumstance in the toddler’s history. Donovan began attending the reformative establishment every day after school from 4pm to 7pm, as well as on weekends from 8am to 12pm, and her outbursts began to lessen drastically, much to the joy of her parents.
With the recession of her anger, new hobbies began to bloom for the toddler. She showed signs of being artistically gifted, and could finally be introduced to other children without the looming fear of her misbehaving. She showed an interest in understanding people’s motives, alongside music, different types of dance, alongside studying illnesses and different Pokemon anatomy.
Donovan began to go outside much more, now speaking toward other children and acting her age with activities like chalk drawing and skateboarding. She began to broaden her social circle with other children, allowing her energy to be output toward friends and acquaintances. Everything aside, she continued to attend reformative therapy, befriending another individual who attended by the name of Salvador, a Seviper of the same age.
He and her were likeminded on many things, though Donovan was much better at concealing her emotions and not acting brash, unlike the young Seviper, who seemed to revel in the reaction acting out gave him. Salvador told her what she wanted to hear, and offered her an intimate friendship that she hadn’t been able to experience before.
For some time, the two seemed to be fine, though after a while Donovan’s well behaved nature seemed to slip once more. Instead of being irritable, however, the Stunky found herself to be more mischievous, causing trouble with her newfound acquaintance as he goaded her misbehavior. The two graduated Elementary at the same time and moved onwards into the same middle school, where Donovan’s parents remained ignorant of their daughter’s behavior. Minor as it was, the teen seemed to come home from school with varying numbers of bruises and scrapes, which was often dismissed by clumsiness. A call from the principal deemed those excuses to be lies, however, as Donovan and Salvador were busted for bullying a fellow student.
As it turned out, Salvador was a bad influence for the impressionable Stunky, often goading her into fights with other kids, and even pushing her to use Sludge Bomb on a fellow classmate. While her academics flourished, Donovan’s social life seemed to plummet as her reputation dropped. As a naïve kid, she failed to notice the correlation and only continued to seek Salvador’s encouragement.
Unfortunately, the trust between Donovan and her parents seemed to shatter in that instant, and it became a regulation for the Stunky to come home directly after school each day. As complaints continued, Zoe and Karla felt hopeless, relentlessly searching for the root of Donovan’s problem. After months of uncertainty, they finally chose to pack up and move to the Kalos region at the end of Donovan’s middle school career, removing her from Salvador and her other friends.
On the last day of school, the Skuntank and Seviper got into a physical argument, which resulted in Donovan using Sucker Punch on Salvador and shattering her wrist. If by some odd fate, the altercation allowed Donovan to easily move on from Opelucid.
Settling down at Cyllage city (as Zoe found work here,) the family continued. Donovan couldn’t help but to be anxious and overwhelmed at the change of scenery, and though she fit in well with the crowd, she failed to linger after school hours, preferring to come straight home from school, and avoiding extracurricular activities. Bitterness was unavoidable, and while she struggled for months during the transition, it ended up massively improving her mood at the end.
This led to her further pursuing her own interests, educating herself on the arts and reading up on different mental conditions and illnesses, finding the mental structure of Pokémon to be fascinating through her own experiences. As she gained a better understanding of self and her purpose, she began to mellow out dramaticall. She began to flourish as an individual, and once finding her own peace of mind, Donovan found herself reacquainting with those attending school with her. She dabbled in recreational activities, but despite this, pulled out decent grades, and upon graduating, moved out of her parents’ house feeling uplifted and positive.
It didn’t take long for Donovan to settle on Lumoise. She knew that she wanted to stay in the Unova region as moves were fully legal here, and she found herself drawn to the city. But there was something else that drew her in. Rumors of an organization called the Argo Navis were often spoken by the young crowd, and intrigued by an organization that reveled in the use of moves, she couldn’t help but to seek them out, both out of interest and curiosity.
Adulthood:
Nowadays, she attends college at Lumoise University, though her move was recent, and she's looking to meet new people, especially those who confirm the existence of the mysterious Argo Navis.
