Really well done: no muddy colors and very clear washes of luscious pigment. I enjoy how the colors are all warm reds on the left and cool blues on the right, fusing together in the middle in many washes of lovely color. I like how it gets very dark in the middle and how that creature is easing its way out of the mass of people. Overall, well done. The entire picture makes you really think about what is going on, what with all those people and the buildings and everything. Good job.

Thank you very much! I tried to plan out the color a little more with this one, focusing on a particular palette for each side. I attempted to blend them both together with the monster, but I don't know how successful I was at that. I'm glad you like his audience of worshippers (or whatever), they were the most painful part to render, a lot of detail, but I got through it somehow. You always have the best comments!

Cool idea, needs more focus in terms of color. The warms and colds are used pretty randomly, it seems to me.

I was going for a transition from warm to cool, but regardless, I like the sort of kaleidoscopic effect.

A gruesome blasphemy. The creature is great: part unholy idol, like a fixed goat skull above some blood-stained altar, part killing machine, like a hydralisk. My favorite part is the three-sectioned mouth. I also like how the blad heads of the monk fellows seem to blend together with the mound from which the monster is rising. Could it be that he ascends from a hecatomb cairn of skulls? A nice touch.

I also like how the colors seem to cycle through a spectrum, in the sky especially. Hellfire on one side, moonlight and cold breezes on the other. I am not sure if the door in the upper right stands out too much. The background city seems pretty hazy except for that one point. Maybe it's the chanting guy's house.

Thank you for your thorough and eloquent analysis of this piece. Also, I am glad to see you on here, your comments, I am sure, will be a source of constant arousal . . . amusement, rather. I must admit, this creature was somewhat hydralisk inspired, transforming the hydralisk into the hoary demon god from which it was surely spawned. And that door stands out, yes. That is because IT IS THE DOOR TO HELL!!!!!

This is absolutely beautiful, pal - I love how the shades of color kind of radiate across the drawing. Watercolor isn't an easy thing to do - and you've done brillantly!

elachrym In reply to TheGlome [2004-10-08 03:34:26 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much. I guess it comes from years of practice, watercolor was so confusing at first. But man, is it fun! you definitely need to get ahold of some (I suggest holbein, their paints are the shit!)

TheGlome In reply to elachrym [2004-10-08 03:48:29 +0000 UTC]

See here, I have an acute case of what is called "muddy colors" syndrome. That, and my little brother is always stealing my paints. So... yeah. XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

elachrym In reply to TheGlome [2004-10-08 03:51:10 +0000 UTC]

That bastard! You need to duct tape him and put him in a closet. Muddy colors can be avoided sometimes. If you just start light (more water, less pigment) when you lay down washes, and let them dry before applying more paint. Then get darker as you progress. If you're impatient, a hair dryer helps. I don't know if this is at all useful, but that's my advice.

TheGlome In reply to elachrym [2004-10-08 04:09:32 +0000 UTC]

Alas, duct-tape can not restrain the typhoon of pure sucrose energy that is my brother... but yeah, i'll try to remember that... thanks a bunch for the tips!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

elachrym In reply to TheGlome [2004-10-08 04:55:49 +0000 UTC]

he sounds pretty wild. if only this energy could be harnessed, for the good of mankind.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheGlome In reply to elachrym [2004-10-08 18:45:13 +0000 UTC]

I think everyone knows that sucrose fission can never be harnessed properly. The consequences of a meltdown would be catastrophic (I.E, many doors would be slammed in rage.)

Hrmm, this door slamming is a problem. Meltdown would be inevitable.

The monster seems to be rising from the people around him, who appear to be worshiping him as well. Beautiful colours and composition, and your skill with watercolour is nothing short of amazing.

just excellent my friend.

you did a great color work.
the heads in all the different angles are precise
and you managed to implement some
political sense in it, how i find.
though i am not satisfied with
the 'monster'. it looks too dead.

keep up the good work.

my my, someone is talent here no?

the use if colors is intresting the way it just seems more like a blur... but it works?

hmm, i don't draw/paint so i'm not sure about technique and so on.
