Description Location - London, UK
Photographer - me

First foray into taking night shots, on a recent trip to london, and though they are far from perfect, I was really pleased with the results All are 3 or more exposures merged in photomatix. No HDR cause I've got no patience to try and get it to work.

Available as prints shortly

(04 is missing because I didn't like the final version and couldn't be bothered to rename the later files. I R LAZY!)

First of all, I want to thank you for being creative with the blue bars. When you first look at the photo you probably don't notice them. But after a while you realize that they actually squeeze the picture, making it appear more panorama-like than it is.

If I could make a request it would be to rotate it a bit clockwise, as it seems as if the left part of the building is sinking into the water, and to cut off a chunk of the bridge to make the building stay in focus.

A thing I really like is the clouds. It amazes me in a way I can't describe (but I'll try e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Wink)" />): If the sky was overfilled with grayish stains, it would take focus away from what's important and make it confusing. If there were no clouds, there would be too much space doing nothing in the picture. The position of the clouds here are just terrific, and the shutter speed gives the impression of them being painted.

Definitely a good shot!

Thank you! Its a bit of an odd one with the horizon line, I think its more of an issue with the lack of lighting on the far end making it look like its dipping towards the river more

I love the clouds too, give the shot a touch of movement thats been removed by the water being smoothed
I'll deffo have another play with it though crop and rotation wise.

Might also be the rightmost tower which definitely leans to the right

It's one of the few shots, actually, of a building at night with spotlights on it...

The neon blue framing works particularly well in this instance, to tie in with the green glow The glittering lights look amazing

Not sure I'd want to live there, but the atmosphere is electric Really something else. Probably similar to how New York must feel like

Wow, very beautiful! I tried so hard for a shot like that, but you're obviously a better photographer than I am. My wife says "Oh, wow, we were there only two months ago!"

Fluke and good advice, plus this is a composite of 3 exposures to get that kind of look

You night photos look wonderful, mines are horrible with the camera I have, all blurry and ugly (and still I have some night filter in the menu but it's not really well designed -__-")

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Elandria In reply to BaB-Jane [2009-10-20 11:44:33 +0000 UTC]

Tripod is a lifesaver, or a sturdy object you can sit the camera on to get rid of the camera shake. Also a timer so you don't need to touch the cammy to take the shot can improve things dramatically. Get an old sock and fill it with rice, they make excellent and portable rests for the camera if you've not got a tripod or are at a location where you can't use one but have walls etc you can sit the cammy on

BaB-Jane In reply to Elandria [2009-10-21 11:05:21 +0000 UTC]

Oh yea I used to do that when I want a good quality photo, I used to bring a box to put the camera on it, but even with that, most of the photos are blurry. That's terrible this cam is so lame, lol!
I will try to buy a new one as soon as possible because now that I'm in England, I have so many pretty pictures to do.
