Description ~~~

A gryfess stood there, outlined by the rising sun. Her pale feathers weren’t the startling white of an Aesir female but soft, like the foam that edged every wave in winter. They shone iridescent silver when she shifted. She was a Vanir, smaller, of the original Silver Isles pride like Shard’s mother. She was Ragna, whom everyone called the widow queen.
She hadn’t taken a new mate when Per the Red conquered. She refused.

Shard couldn’t help but dip his head and mantle, at least halfway, to show his respect.

“You hunted well.” Her voice was measured and soft. Shard had never heard her speak before. Certainly not to him. Her eyes were the pale, pale green of autumn moss.

I had several realizations while working on this piece:

-I *heart* charcoal, charcoal pencils, and blending stumps.
-Photo reference is frawsome (freaking+awesome).
-Not all highlights are created equal.
-Drawing and shading feathers can produce a serene, Zen-like state.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Her descriptive introduction had always reminded me of The Last Unicorn.  It might be part of why I love her so much
