Description Commissioned Gazebo roof, Panel 7, Bird nr 10-13.
A woman commissioned this for the inside ceiling of her gazebo,
she wanted a blue sky with birds.
It's acrylic on a triangle shaped sheet of wood, there is in all 8 panels.

I'm almost don with the project! X3
I'm very happy with the smaler birds here, but I'm very unhappy with the biges bird.. I will paint some more on it, but I'm so sick of it now that it will just have to wait.

MΓ₯ger og terner. Ha, I'm the big bird-expert here It is a tern, right?
But I think it it looks great. You're doing a very good job making the shadows look like feathers. Especially the tail looks very, very realistic to me :3 I'm feeling a little artist-jealousy over here ... but if I keep practice, I guess I'll be able to draw that realistic, too

You are right again, you big bird-expert hehe
And thank you, I had forgot the name of the big bird, and it is in fact a tern.
Thank you

If you really want to get better and really want to be an artist, so is there nothing that can stop you from getting there
Just look at this Improvement MEME I did, in the first images I was the same age as you are now. [link]

- pats giant bird-of-europe-book - best gift ever My mom always forgets I have it and looks at me in a strange way when I come with all my bird-facts. It's mostly the corvid-section I've been looking at, though.
Looks like there's hope C: I'm really looking forward to go to drawing classes this summer, it's only a few days, but she knows a lot about shadows and light ^^
I have a notebook almost filled with skecthes I want to draw, but I can never find patience to finish them, I often gets lazy when I reach the background, and worst of all, I tend to want changing my shading style in the middle of the drawing -_-

Books about animals are awesome I often used to look at all the animal book when I was smaler,
I didn't read them but I loved and studied the pictures a lot :3

The background often gets neglected when you focus on the object and then there just isn't much interest left for the background.
What you should do then is only draw backgrounds for a little while, to train, draw mountains, plains, costs, sea, nature, city.. and so on.

I do that too XD one little tip is to draw an arrow that represent the direction the light is coming from, it helps you to remember where to put the shadow.

I love to read them, especially because I can make people think I'm clever because of those silly facts I've readed. Just readed the part about the Tjeld and got even bigger fan of them. Their beaks are different depending on where they live and the way thay open the clams or oysters or what the different kinds are called. (Muslinger. Way easier, one word for them all xD)

Thank you for the advice, I'll try :3 And I keep forgetting some of the things I've learned about traditional media, I should really try putting some of it in my digital drawings ^^

It's not really the direction, I just feel like "This would look better if I used a soft brush to shade!" And suddenly, I've used four different styles for the background, one cell, one soft, one only using the 1px brush ect. and it looks like something cluttered together. Then I need to decide one, and redraw the other shadows, and then I gets lazy and the drawing will rot in it's folder. Poor drawings ...

Thats cool did you know that the same animal sounds a little different depending on where they are in the world, like they have different dialects.
I also love the facts, but I get them from watching Tv programs about animals

Ah okay, That also depends on how the light is or how close something is to the light.
If you draw something that is outside, with a blue sky so should the shadows be less soft, with a cloudy sky so should the shadows be more soft.
If inside so dos it depend on how far the object is from the light, if close: hard, far away: soft. and it also depends on how many light sources there are and how bright.

No, I didn't know that. That's also pretty cool! New random fact to sound clever with, thankie

That's true. I'm trying to feel comfortable with a style, because I can't keep at completely realistic for longer time if I don't have the figure/subject right in front of me. But thank you for the tips, I'll try it out ^^
