Description Haha, I was originally going to draw all of the girls from Peach's generation, but see just how far I got... I forgot all about it for a month or so, and now I'm not in the mood to continue doing the rest of them! But anyway, I at least managed to finish Peach.

I suppose anyone can see what group sailor moon picture I was going to emulate here, right? Man, one of these days I'm going to draw the rest of Peach's team too, not just here and Fro-Fro!

Okay! The basic idea is that any bearer of the Silver Crystal (or any transformed form, so basically any of Usagi's descendants or ancestors (in the case of multiples (which is a canon no-no but hey) whichever one inherits the Crystal) can become Sailor Cosmos. The Silver Crystal, being canonically the largest (or at least most powerful, but it does seem to be larger in size too at least when in full bloom) star seed, has this power to draw other star seeds to itself (thing mass of celestial bodies). In order for Sailor Cosmos to manifest, it requires the star seed of every Sailor Senshi in the cosmos to come together to form a new crystal. The problem? People can't exactly live without their crystals. So basically she only shows up during all or nothing battles simply because those that aren't dead yet get their star seeds sucked out in a desperation play by the most powerful soldier. In order for the seeds to return to the Cauldron(s, given cosmos implies greater than a simple galaxy), Cosmos would have to shatter her seed so everyone, including herself, could go back to the Cauldron to be reborn. So basically the birth of Sailor Cosmos is the conception of the big bang.

Now imagine someone implied to have a similar to Usagi's personality (either by being her or descended from her) being forced to make that play in order to save the universe! No wonder Cosmos was depressed!

(And it neatly avoids the problem of whether or not Cosmos is Usagi or just the current to her time Moon. It requires the Silver Crystal not the reborn Princess Serenity. XD It prevents Cosmos forms of the other Senshi, though.)

What's really fun about the headcanon is you can create multiple designs for Cosmos based on what Senshi she was born from! (Whether or not you make the hair white is up to the person - I think that Cosmos had white hair in her civilian/original soldier form, but that doesn't eliminate it from being Usagi given that manga Neo Queen Serenity has white/silver hair even if the style of Cosmos is slightly different.)

Haha, I like it! Definitely no wonder why Cosmos was feeling a bit blue! Poor little Cosmos, what a depressing thought! Although to be fair, it would've made the fight with Galaxia a lot easier!
"Uhm... Fighter, Maker, Healer... I think... I think you guys better start saying your goodbyes now, you're the only ones left... Well, you and Galaxia. But she shouldn't be much of problem when I'm done with this. " Although I suppose the satellite senshi would be "collateral damage" as well!

Wasn't it implied that Galaxia's crystal was of equal strength, or maybe even stronger, than the silver crystal? And why does the Silver Crystal posses this special property? Such a sad ultimatum: "You can gain the power to save the world, but first you must slaughter most of your friends and loved ones." Yaaaaaaay! Cosmos "herself" seems like she would have a somewhat limited lifespan, though. She's have no reason, or will, to live on after she'd fulfilled her duties, I guess! Unless it's a really power hungry and twisted Cosmos who dreams of world domination... I guess the Galaxy Cauldron would have to work overtime to spew out some new Sailor Crystals to counter that monstrosity... Hey, do you think a new crystal would be born for each celestial object if Cosmos refused to shatter her own, and release the old ones? Because that would be kind of cool...

galacticpink In reply to elila [2012-10-16 09:52:49 +0000 UTC]

The way I intepreted, and this is of course all manga canon because Cosmos, is that the Silver Crystal and the Saffir Crystal were of similar power levels. The Silver Crystal is kind of a canon special snowflake though. It may be that only the spirit of self-sacrifice can create Cosmos - ie Galaxia could potentially become Cosmos but she lost the ability when she got corrupted by Chaos? And I've always seen that despite being of equal base power, the Silver Crystal has a greater potential.

If Cosmos went evil crazy, the universe would just stagnate and never be reborn under my theory (then again Senshi aren't eternal (just ridiculously long lived) so she'd die eventually, which would have the same effect as releasing the crystals. XD)

My theory operates on the expansion and shrinking of the universe and multiple big bangs every time it shrinks to a point of exploding outwards. The Cauldron basically vomits up every time the big bang happened, its the final point of shrinking and then it explodes crystals out again. That power, that power of cosmic birth/destruction, is the power of Cosmos (similar to Saturn, but when you think about it one could always make parallels between Saturn and Moon's powers - Saturn was on a smaller scale though - I never imagined Saturn destroyed the /universe/, just the kingdoms of the Silver Millennium. At most she rebirthed the Milky Way, not the entire cosmos).

The reason why the guardian spirit of the Cauldron is Guardian Cosmos is because of that inherent Cauldron based power. Moon is never directly given a Guardian Spirit , so perhaps her true spirit is the potential ie Cosmos. After all, Guardian Cosmos always struck me as having an unusually special connection to Moon.

Also, I'm willing to argue that the ability to become Cosmos is not tied to the Silver Crystal, but to the strongest spirit of purity, love, and self-sacrifice and under different circumstances any soldier could become Sailor Cosmos - just in the case of canon it was Neo Queen Serenity or one of her descendants (hence the "me of the past" statement. Although if you really wanted to stretch it, "me of the past" could simply refer to the soldier most powerful in that spirit that represents the ability to become Cosmos rather than "Moon". It's just that Sailor Moon, or whichever canon bearer of the Silver Crystal you want to reference (Queen Serenity, Usagi, Chibi-Usa) is most inclined to that spirit of Cosmos given their overall base source of power.)

Cosmos is the cosmic counter-balance to Chaos, so whoever becomes Cosmos has to have the same level of power as Chaos just in the opposite form. And the manga implied that both are actually necessary to the running of the universe. Just as the latent power of Cosmos must exist, so must the latent power of Chaos. The loss of either one is a direct ticket to cosmic extinction.

elila In reply to galacticpink [2012-10-16 11:31:11 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure if I feel that the silver crystal has greater 'potential' than Galaxia's crystal, really. We only see her 'utilize' it as a hardened and bitter person, and a pawn of chaos, who's to say it couldn't be potentially infinitely stronger had Galaxia been a less 'troubled' person? But on the other hand, are we then talking about the potential of the crystal, or the potential of Galaxia herself? But yeah, the Silver Crystal is the Mary Sue of the sailor crystals, it's such a pretty little special snowflake!

I don't think that the universe would stagnate should Cosmos decide not to release the crystal. I seem to remember (although it's been a while) Guardian Cosmos talking about how there were new stars born in the cauldron all the time, and how some never made it and just faded away. That seem to me to imply that new celestial object, and their respective guardian crystals, could possibly be birthed even after 'arrival' of Cosmos. Then these would either automatically be drawn into Cosmos as well, or they would keep going as they are creating new senshi separate from Cosmos. I also think that in the event that Cosmos should be 'born' through the different Sailor Crystals coming together, it would leave behind a sort of energy, or power, vacuum. Because Cosmos, while strongest of the senshi, can't really be the sum of the strength of all the crystals combined (because that would make her ridiculously overpowered), and the Cauldron would try to fill the void left behind by the crystal somehow (if they didn't return on their own). In that case I think she'd (apparently I think the Cauldron is female now...) try to 'replace' the lost senshi, so that the celestial objects would have proper guardians again. And I'm not only saying that because I think 'Substitute Senshi' sounds cool, and I'm getting amusing plot bunnies! Anyway, I'm just rambling on about my own personal take on this idea now, so it's not a 'OMG your theories are wrong and I don't like it!' thing going on, just in case that wasn't clear! I just have a tendency to go on tangents and get totally away from where I started, if that wasn't painfully obvious by now...

As if anything in the Sailor Moon universe is exactly entirely stable - I love the manga and anime but Naoko didn't exactly make a pretty tight package of her universe, and that's one of the reasons its so much fun to play in! XD

To counter your counters though, remember that the power of the Cauldron is the power of Cosmos, so her existance may prevent the cauldron from doing jack until her power went away! XD Nothing says that Cosmos didn't completely wipe the floor with Chaos, her depression could have very easily stemmed entirely from the sadness of sacrifice and being completely and utterly alone in the universe! If the Silver Crystal is a special snowflake than Cosmos can be an Emo Sue so there. XD

(aka nah, it's fine. When it comes to headcanons, particularly Sailor Moon ones as stated before, they can be countered. Its my pet headcanon, not yours, and if I ever break down and make a Sailor Moon line it'll be using it (it'll have explanations why only the Moon Line can become Cosmos. XD)

elila In reply to galacticpink [2012-10-16 13:26:07 +0000 UTC]

I agree, I think it's one of the many reasons why Sailor Moon is the only fandom I'm really interested in 'playing' in. Naoko created a waste and colourful world, but left much of it vague enough for me to have fun with!

I'm not entirely sure if I would equate the power of the cauldron with Cosmos though, as in Cauldron == Cosmos. Although Cosmos might be the ultimate culmination of the senshi power, and potentially the senshi of the Cauldron itself, I still see the Cauldron as her 'creator', or place of birth, and not inherently dependant on her to work. Lambda power and all that, confusing as it is, always seemed more of the Cauldron's 'magic' than Cosmos'. Or at least separate from Cosmos' powers.

Just making sure, I've had people who thought my huge leaps of 'HOMG I JUST GOT THIS IDEA NOW THAT IS A BIT RELATED BUT NOT REALLY' as a statement of 'Your idea is boring and stupid and I don't want to talk about it' which was totally not my intent at all, I just get easily distracted when in creativityland... And I have my own 'official' headcanon version of Cosmos that is entirely different, which of course doesn't get in the way of other awesome fancanons and plotbunnies that run rampant in my head! For my substitute senshi to come around I just need a reason for the sailor crystals not to return to the cauldron for one reason or another, and take it from there! Although I have to say the idea of a corrupt Sailor Cosmos of the future fills me with more glee than is healthy, I think!

galacticpink In reply to elila [2012-10-16 14:24:19 +0000 UTC]

A corrupt Cosmos is so entirely possible oh my goodness that really was a good little crackchild you came up with. XD With her power level (which I think we can agree is stupidly high? XD) the only reason she'd be defeated is the constant law of Sailor Moon that LOVE (EVENTUALLY FOR DARKER FANWORKS) CONQUERS ALL and you're not using love if you're a corrupt cosmic Senshi. XD

I was kind of unclear on the Cauldron Cosmos thing I think! XD Like, I meant more that she and the cauldron get their power from the same source (I have never gotten that Lambda business, but when you're in a universe where reverse evolution of humans leads to Serenity knows what monstrosities instead of apes or even single cel organisms, logic is not really a thing that applies XD) but if she's using all that power to fight evil (or be evil, if she goes corrupt), the Cauldron might have issues!

Man, what happens to the Guardians when their Senshi goes corrupt? Do they vanish? Do the go corrupt themselves? I mean they always struck me as the soul of the soul of the Senshi (ie a personification of their Crystals) but the only aspect of Sailor Moon that got less explanation then them (and yet made more sense) were the poor Maenads! XD

elila In reply to galacticpink [2012-10-16 17:50:25 +0000 UTC]

Cosmos, and Evil Cosmos, is definitely over 9000! And it's true, the power of love is the only thing that can not be beat, and evil will always be vanquished in the end! It wouldn't be Sailor Moon otherwise. Although now I wonder on whether I should have a corrupt and dark version of the Cosmos we know in canon, or another future Cosmos. Because I sort of feel bad corrupting someone who is potentially Usagi. She just strikes me as the one character who would be incorruptible.

Oh, no, I got that's what you meant! Guess it was me who was unclear! Then again, the whole thing is a bit unclear! I just meant that I think the Cauldron doesn't have a power source in the sense that it IS the power source. It's what all starseed comes from, and ultimately drawn power from (although most of them less directly than Cosmos I suppose) it. If that makes any sense. But yeah, it's such an open universe, many things can be twisted and turned to suit whatever story you want to tell! Luckily for us, because I have many different stories that contradict each other a bit!

I always assumed that the Guardian was just a personification of their inner power/their crystal. But then again, they did at some point seem like entirely separate entities, so who knows? I suppose that either the Guardians would be corrupt as well, or they'd escape and either a) hide away somewhere, b) take corporal form and try to save 'their' senshi or c) 'posses' someone and make them temporary senshi? Sort of like Galaxia sent out her starseed in the anime I guess. Oh yeah, the Maenads! I always did wonder why they had such a similar hairstyle to the moon royalties, when Elysion was supposed to be on/in earth. Maybe they're Queen Serenity fangirls?
